Tropical Heat
« on: April 01, 2010, 02:13:29 PM »
Buddies has these listed for a late April release. One is listed with a Reactor Hybrid cover (Black/Silver), while the other two have the same cover as the Tropical Storms, Reactor Pearl. All three have the Turbine core as opposed to the modified 3-piece that the Storms have. Are these replacing the Storms (I tend to doubt it since Buddies also has a new yellow/purple Storm about to become available)? Maybe Storm felt that there was too big of a gap between the Fast and the Storms and the Heats fill that gap? That would be my guess....

Curious what those in the know, know

The Tropical Heats initially look like better competition with the locally popular Freeze from Columbia.

Unfortunately, the price still appears to be higher than a Freeze.

In the recent past Roto-Grip and Storm have tried not to step on each others toes in regards to performance levels and price points.

This could simply be Utah's answer to balancing out the 2010-2011 product catalogs between Storm and Roto-Grip.

The Tropical Heats use the same core as the Fast, Furious and Natural. I do not know their intention with this line....are they ADDING to the success of the current 3 or are they replacing it?

I think the Reactor solid and pearl covers were the covers used when the Turbine was used in the Street Rods.

Not Replacing the Tropical Storms

Not Replacing the Fast, Furious, and Natural which are in the hot line...from what i know these balls will be in the Tropical Line

This is a new line of bowling balls at a lower price point than the Hot Line (Fast, Furious, and Natural) and slightly higher than the tropical storms...lots of performance for your dollar here.

Hope that helps

The pearl Tropical Heat appears to be nearly identical to the Street Rod Pearl. Same cover, same core, same 1500-grit polished finish.

The Hybrid Tropical Heat appears to be a blend of the two Street Rods.

Both are now up on Storm's site.

On the Storm website, the graph for Tropical Heat stroker and Furious stroker are IDENTICAL.  That to me, makes me wonder a big "WTF?"

I can't see the Reactor being as aggressive as a pure solid R2S ball.

I personally matched up better with Reactor than R2S.  R2S for me is a touch over/under and that's never fun.  I like how easily Reactor gets down lane, and how strong of a move to the pocket it has.  R2S sort of blended that downlane movement a bit, and my T-Road Pearl wasn't quite the ball I was expecting at first.  Big fan of the R2X though, oddly enough.

I'm curious to see if these Heats will compare to the Freezes/Vibes of the world.  If it does, the one that smells like Coconut Rum has my name written allllll over it

Don't judge a balls possible performance on pretty colored lines on shelf talkers or elsewhere.

Storm certainly has the market cornered on this aspect. It's amusing to see the novice bowlers reaction to a bowling ball that has, to some, a pleasant odor.

If I recall correctly, raspberry hasn't been used since the El-Nino X-it.  Hopefully it ages better on a pearl Reactor cover than it did on the X-it. Many years later the X-it no longer had any hint of raspberry left.

Tropical Heat pearls ARE the Street Rod Pearl.  Same ball, potentially lower price point can't be a bad thing.

Tropical Heat hybrid specs. remind me of the Hot Rod Hybrid - my favorite broken down shot (medium-dry) ball from Storm ever.

I am encouraged by this move.  These seem to be a Freeze killer move which I am happy to see.

i thought the last ball to have raspberry was the jolt particle?

when I first saw the balls on buddies(before i read this topic), i thought storm had just added more colours to the tropical line......

will be interesting to see the ball reactions

A welcome and needed move - glad to see Storm filling out the bottom end of the lineup - I have most/all of my stronger Storm/Roto Grip balls in the closet, not in the bag - this has been the year in leagues where my milder stuff has matched up better.

+1 here.  I'm gonna be in the market for a new ball once leagues pay out in a few weeks.  This may be what I'm looking for.
