Utah State Handicap Singles Leader
« on: March 18, 2007, 02:48:49 PM »
The current Utah State tournament leader for the Handicap Singles event is ME!  After a disatrous showing in Team event yesterday of 545, I show up today with my head out of my butt..  Different attitude..  and shoot the highest 3 game set I have EVER thrown..  259, 268, 256 for a 783 SCRATCH Singles set, which is currently tied for 2nd in the Utah State Tournament, but with my handicap of 72 pins, I am the current  handicap leader with an 855, with one weekend to go next weekend..  And I shot these fabulous scores with my STORM X-Factor Trifecta!!  I actually had 2 open frames with 2 splits in games 1 and three.. One solid 10 pin, and a 1, 2, 4, 10 washout in game 3 as well..  Followed up this Singles set with a 689 in Doubles with scores of 211, 230,and 248.. To be sitting currently in 8th in Handicap Doubles with a 1464 score.  I didn't even check on Scratch Doubles, not even sure there is such a category but my partner and I shot 1358 with my 689 and his 679..  We did move to a different pair for DOubles and I did actually have to throw my Lane #1 Black Cherry Bomb, which doesn't hook as much as my Trifecta on one lane and shot the same line as Singles with my Trifecta on the other!  I was happy to be able to perform today after my disatrous effort yesterday..  156, 176, 213 for a stellar 545 set in team..  One more weekend to survive as the Utah State Handicap Singles Champion!!!

Congrats and nice bowling!

What are you talking about "Congrats..."?  He's the leader in handicap singles, that hardly counts for anything.  I mean, it's not like he bowled well or anything, he just showed up with his 130 average, shot 400 pins over average, and wins??  What the hell is that?

That's the attitude we have on this board regarding handicap.

He did shoot 783 scratch...and knowing the Utah system, bowling without handicap is not something to brag about, especially with as easy as the lanes are.

Because high average in the City of Salt Lake (let alone the state) last year was 240. *edit* the 2 people at 240 had around 24 games a piece, just barely over...but I and a lefty on Monday nights were both 236 for 96 or so games.

Yea, it is one of the easiest houses to bowl in in Utah, where they are holding the tournament..  But, it is also one of the largest houses in the State..  All kinds of records being set at this years state..  All-time Team Scratch record of 3596 was set..  All time ALL Events Scratch record of 2310 by a guy who works at the center the tournament is being held at..  He shoots 784 Scratch in Singles with his 230 + average.. I shoot 783 Scratch in Singles with my 190 average, My Highest Series ever.. Hell YES, I am pleased as punch!!  SO, Go ahead Shelley and TRY and take that away from me!!  But, Good Luck!! It is not about YOU!!  It is about the way I bowled.. After shooting 545 in Team event on the SAME PAIR as Singles.. I was trying to figure out HOW I could shoot that much better one day later..

Not taking anything away from anyone.  Just confused.  How many posts say "handicap sucks" and "why should I get beaten by someone with handicap even though I bowled better"?

I think you bowled very well.  That 783 is 101 pins higher than I've ever bowled.    I can't say I'll never shoot 783, two years ago I didn't think I'd ever shoot 682 or 258.  It's just funny to me the way we can bitca so vehemently about handicap and then be expected to congratulate someone for winning a handicap division or tournament.

The only time I bitca about handicap is during the World Am Handicap Championship Golf tournament held annually in Myrtle Beach, SC the last week of August.  Talk about Sand bagging!!  I don't bitca about handicap in bowling because I believe that the amount of bowling I do in different houses represents what I can do as a bowler.. I am not a "house" bowler who bowls to a 240 average in the same house over and over..  I have only EVER averaged over 200 for a year long league ONCE!  And that was 3 years ago..  That is why this tournament gives you the optional all events in Scratch and Handicap.. Each bowler gets to choose thier poison!  I didn't bitca when the guy with twice as much handicap as me shoots 290 SCRATCH and knocks me out of a bracket...  At least not on this forum!! lol..  He bowled a good, no great game!  Cannot take that away from him..  I bowled better than I ever have for a three game set.. And I did it 2 months BEFORE I go to Nationals in Reno!!  WTF!!  Why couldn't I have waited??

Exactly..  I sub on a scratch league, sport condition to boot..  Averaged 176 the first week on it..  Get another chance tonight!!!  And, if the payout is enough for the State Tourney, I may find myself at the High Roller in July down in Vegas.. At least for the "A" Game!!
