Because your computer has it in its "cache", and looks for it there first.

Storm: "Vivid" WWRD; 2012_03-01

Storm Vivid

· Color: Black/Blue/Green

· Coverstock: NRG™ Solid Reactive

· Weight Block: M.A.D.™  Core

· Factory Finish: 2000-grit Abralon

· Flare Potential: 6" Plus (high)

· Radius of Gyration (RG): 2.48

· Differential (Diff): 0.050

· Intermediate Differential (Mass Bias): 0.017

· Fragrance: Wild Mint Leaf

Intent:

Storm is synonymous with high performance. Looking at the best competitive bowlers around the world, all gathered in Las Vegas for this year’s PBA World Series of Bowling, Storm emerged as the clear leader in our sport with complete domination of the events.

The intent of the new Vivid™ is to create a motion which expands the current Premier™ line, giving you a clear picture of the lane condition while utilizing Storm’s most technologically-advanced cores and coverstocks. This new Vivid will be a perfect fit between the original Virtual Gravity™ Nano solid and pearl versions, combining midlane traction and backend hook.

By now you are probably familiar with the term nanotechnology. While it technically refers to the study of manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale, nanotechnology in the coverstock creates heavy surface texture like no other. So, anytime you see the new NRG™ logo on a ball, know that you’ve got the best bowling has to offer.

Design:

Starting at the center, the heart of the bowling ball, the technical team developed a new asymmetrical shape known at the M.A.D.™ core. Maximum Accelerating Disc technology optimizes the shapes of the RG planes to allow you to perfectly dial in your desired reaction.

Moving to the shell, the NRG™ solid reactive coverstock utilizes nanotechnology to create additional contours and surface texture. Proven in the original Virtual Gravity Nano, this coverstock allows bowlers of all skill levels to hook the ball like a pro. Just give it a little side roll and watch the Vivid do its magic.

Prepped with a 2000-grit finish, the Vivid can be smoothed with Xtra Shine™ if you find it has just too much teeth. But know that with the Vivid you’ll be sure to see a true heavy roll with increased break point responsiveness like no other.

Is that core like the one in some of those AZO balls? The Area Check I think? Maybe the AREA?

Looks close to me. Numbers just slightly different though.

Looks like they took the Origin core concept, rounded the edges, and raised the RG a little bit... a new and improved version of the Invasion, perhaps? I'm sure a pearl version will follow within the next year!

Good looking out, Juggernaut! I believe AZO is poured by Storm, and from what I've heard, that Area Check was  a hidden secret, very few bowlers knew about!

Core looks like it gives good transitions and a rolly backends. Here is a vid with the AREA CHECK in it.

Let me be the first to say YES that ball was a hidden gem...I averaged approx 250 for the first half of my Friday nite men's league, ended with a 235ish average and high average of the league honors with my area check.  Yes it was poured by storm...I have two of them.  I would say that they fit in between the theory and the orginal virtual gravity....kinda like a flippier theory if you can imagine that.  So now the vivid should be a nano verson of the area check....

After owning 2 area checks...I will be getting this ball, for sho.

I can't say its a variant of the invasion...that ball was love it or hate it, in a world of its own.
Hope that sheds a little light on the topic....I'm undecided on the concept, I wanted something "new"...it sux that everything is a rehash of a rehash these days...

IF
"This  new Vivid will be a perfect fit between the original Virtual Gravity™  Nano solid and pearl versions, combining midlane traction and backend  hook."
is how Storm sees the Vivid, and the finish on the Nano solid is 500/4000 grit,
then
why did they just not finish a Nano Solid 500/1000/2000 plus a dose of polish (OR just 500/1000/2000/4000 grit) and drill it with a longer pin distance and/or maybe a larger Drill angle,
and Bingo! you have the same or similar reaction?

I know for me there is a huge gap between the Nano and Nano pearl......I would have to drill at least 2 other balls to fill the gap. But I get your point. Instead most manufacturers would rather flood the market with ball after ball...,.

It appears that the new MAD core is a cross between the Origin and the Shape Lock cores.  Between the VG Nano and the Anarchy, there was a huge gap for me.  In either case, it would be interesting to see how this ball will fit in the lineup.

Actually, the M.A.D. core even looks a little like the old R.A.D. core to me.
