What is similar to the Shift?
« on: December 17, 2008, 03:33:06 AM »
I would like to know which of the new Storm balls is the closest to the Shift.  My ball got destroyed in the ball return and the center is getting me a new ball.  But, the Shift has been discontinued.  So, I would like some opinions as to what would be a close fit.

Thanks in advance.

Gravity Shift is a step up from the Shift and the Rapid Fire Pearl / HY-Road are a step down.  Personally if they are giving you a choice I'd get the Gravity Shift.

That's a good question.  I know the Shift is a pearl/particle.  But the hybrids are part pearl/part solid.  But I'm thinking these would be closer than just a pearl or just a solid.  But the assym core won't get matched too well.  So w/that, it's probably the Hy-Road.  I thought the Sure~Fire but that's been discontinued as well.  Next closest, maybe a polished Attitude or dulled Gravity, LOL.  Let us know if/what you find out.

I personally could not put the Gravity Shift and the Shift in the same category. I think the shift is a much better all around ball.  I did not match up the Gravity Shift.  The ball for me was almost a zero.  Not everyone matches up with every ball and I understand that, but the Gravity Shift wasn't a step up to the Shift for me.  A couple of more games and I will be able to compare the HyRoad.

To the best of my knowledge, the shift has not been discontinued.

I have the Mighty Shift and it is an outstanding ball.  I got it at Nationals last year.  Very versatile.

Well, yes and no.  Yes, it is still listed as a current ball.  However, if you go to Storm with a warranty request they will tell you to pick a different ball.  That is a typical move when they are planning to discontinue.

Well, I am just going by what the center told me.  They told me they ordered the ball and when they talked to the vendor, it was discontinued.  So, maybe or maybe not.  I just have to go by what they tell me since they are buying me the new ball.  They said they will check with another vendor and let me know.  I just hope they can find one because I really like the ball.

The Mighty Shift?  I will have to look into that.  Thanks for all the input.

Talked my pro-shop guy & he can't get em' either.  So it's not official on the website, but it's official w/the pro-shop guys.  Most of the on-line shops don't list em anymore either.  It's only the ones that sold em for the most that have em left.

You can easily find a Shift from one of the PBA tour pros or on ebay.  It isn't like you are searching for a Quantum Helix

Crackkills (good name - btw) is getting a replacement ball from his center/pro shop.  I am assuming they are only going to replace with what their distributor has and very few distributors still are supplying Shifts, let alone overseas balls.  I still think your choice is between a Gravity, a HY-Road, and one of the fire line balls.  If you want a slightly stronger ball get a Gravity.  If you want a slightly smoother ball go with the HY-Road.
