What Storm Ball would you choose for me.
« on: March 28, 2013, 10:49:41 AM »
Looking for a Storm ball that will give me length and finish if they were all drilled the same on a normal THS. Where would you put the pin and which would be the ball you would chose for me. My normal shot is playing straight down between 3/10 hand behind the ball not a great deal of revs and more of a stroker. Not able to stand left as I don't have the hand. Thanks for any replies

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I would ask this question of my pro shop instead of here.

Thanks Milo I have asked and they tend to want me take the newest and most expensive, but looking at some of the posts the most expensive is not always best.

What kind of lanes do you see? Wood, synthetic, light oil, medium? I ask because i bowl at two houses and one is medium oil with lenght, and the other is medium ligjt but short.
Off the top of my head i tthink iq tour pearl, nano pearl, fire road, and frantic. Pin down ore likely but your pap will dictate your shape more than pin position. Such as how fast the ball will rev, how soon it hooks, and how much it flares.

Ah, ok. Yea some shops will do that. Check out the Frantic, it's probably the best ball Storm makes for the price right now. Good length and nice reaction down lanes.

what would help make a better recomendation is telling us what you are currently using and what you want the new ball to do compared to that

Thanks for the replies at the moment the best reaction i'm getting  is from the Ultimate Inferno that has the pin level with the ring finger about 1in the other balls I have with that drilling is the Hy Road and Bruswick Fury on Avilane Syn 41ft with a pretty good back end. The inferno seems to give me that extra finish even though its 10yrs old. I could do with a little more drive from a Storm ball but which one?.

i would recommend the reign of power. its a higher RG so it will get some more length but youll definitely get more drive out of it. i would look at that and the modern marvel and see what your proshop thinks is best

Maybe the pro shop is trying to sell you the most expensive because more often than not, the most expensive has a higher hook potential? Based on the limited info you offered, maybe a higher hook potential ball is what you need? It also depends on what you say to your pro shop.

Any idea as to what your axis point is?  A pin next to ring finger could be 2 inches from axis for one person and 4 inches from axis for another person.  This also helps determine where to put the pin.

I am not saying this is what is happening in this situation.

Hypothetically speaking, not all pro shops do the right thing.  Not all pro shops watch the bowler throw some shots before making suggestions.

Some pro shops that do not know you from anyone else, will simply make the suggestion that makes them the most profit.

Not blaming them if they do that.  They are a business.

But lets not assume that every local pro shop does it RIGHT and maybe the poster is seeking a second opinion before he spends his money and maybe buys the wrong ball.

The two I should suggest is Sync and Reign of Power. If you go for Sync pin above fingers give you length. But look at Storm drilling as well.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

Look at Roto Grip. Soul is you like a strong mid lane read with great continuation. If you want earlier but still continuous try the Disturbed. Two of the best balls on the market and they are storm products.

Thanks for your replies i'm not sure what the actual drillings are i've only been playing for 53 yrs now. I should ask where this and that is but don't know if i'd understand it all and what it means to the roll and finish of the ball.  I thought i'd try this pin position on a couple of balls to see the reaction they are old balls so nothing lost if it didn't work.I must admit I am getting more of what I want with this type of drilling for my stroker/tweener and not to many revs. If there are other pin positions I could try that would make it even stronger on the last 12ft or so I would certainly try them, as not really understanding the ins and outs of drilling positions I like to ask bowlers who do. Just had a look at the position of the pin to Cg on the balls and they are what I think you would call stacked. Thanks again for this help.

Based on your last reply, my feeling is that you should probably stay away from exotic drilling and focus more on ball selection.  You probably need a strong drilling (not exotic) on a ball that is more medium performance skid/snap than top of  the line monster hook.  I would research several of the above recommendations from the other posters and see what others have posted about the balls.  Everyone rolls the ball slightly different.  Without a video or exact specs it is more of a educated guess by us based on what you tell us.

Good luck with your research and ball selection.
