X-Factor Ace What LBS should I go with? ASAP
« on: November 09, 2004, 08:32:02 AM »
Looking to buy a new ball going to buy a X-Factor Ace. Ive always used a 16lbs. Ive been talking to guys at the bowling alley that love using a 14lb ball.

Do you guys think thats going to low? Im not getting any younger and I know the newer balls work more but dont want to loose any pin action.

Thanks!

If you aren't having any problems throwing 16, I'd say stick with it.  But if you want to change, switch to 15 first, then 14, to see if you really want to.  16 will hit harder and deflect the pins less than 14lbs, so it may affect your carry.

I agree with a_ak57 and would like to add that the reason some people move down in weight to 14 or 15 is that the 16 hitts too hard, meaning you aren't carrying because of solid 8s or 9s.

I changed to 15 several years ago and have found no loss in carry %, and less pain in my wrist/elbow.

OH yeah I forgot to add, I think you should go to 15.  Less strain on your arm than 16lbs, and more hit/carry than 14.  It's what I use, and I don't plan on switching anytime soon.

I have used 15# balls for the last 14 years. At my age, the 15#'s are beginning to feel a bit heavy and I get more tird after 4-5 games than I used to. I recently got a 14# ball to try and love it. I can tell no difference in the carry of 14# vs 15#. In fact, if anything it seems the 14# may carry the 10 Pin just a bit better.

I would do as ak57 and CoachJim suggest and drop to 15#. With todays covers, cores, and power of the balls, as far as I am concerned, it is a myth that the 15#-16# balls hit harder than 14#. They don't for me.
