xxxtream vs deuce
« on: October 05, 2004, 04:39:52 AM »
Is this ball very similar to the deuce? I had a deuce and hated it with a passion so I am leary of this one. I traded that for the D/T element and fell in love so D/T has an edge in the runnings for me. Right now I am looking at the triple xtream and the thing lives I just can't make up my mind on it. Any opinions?  And for us old shcoolers (haha) how does this look in comparison to the Trauma ER, I'm thinking it should be a similar reaction shape just for more oil, right or wrong?

Well, I didn't own either one but I've seen both in action. To me, the X-treme is much stronger. From what I saw, the Deuce, in box condition, would only work for 2 or 3 games before it would gloss over with a shine and begin losing pop significantly. The X-treme does not seem to have this problem. Plus, the X-treme seems to be more continuous than the Deuce. Once it starts moving, it doesn't stop. That's just what I've seen. As for your choice of a X-treme or the Thing Lives, I'd probably go with the Thing Lives, seeing as you like what DT has to offer. I think the two are going to be comparable in terms of strength, so go with what you know. Either one would make a good choice for medium-heavy oil. Good luck.

BK,
You're sure the XXX must be stronger? Based on what comparison? You only stated you threw the XXX and it was very strong for you, but no reference at all to the TL. You obviously haven't thrown it, and no mention of ever seeing it thrown, no logical comaprison of covers, cores, RG, or anything. All you can say is you've thrown one and it was a strong ball for you, period.

BK,
Ok, I see you were comparing it to the Duece, but same argument applies.

The Triple Xtreme has the exact same cover, solid Accu-Tread; Triple is at 800 grit; Deuce is at 1000 grit - minor difference, unless they changed  the Accu-Tread coverstock that much in 2 years.
The Triple's core may be slightly stronger due to a stronger mass bias differential, but the Deuce actually flared more.

So one can readily see that the Triple X is just a slightly stronger replacement for the Deuce. If the Deuce got all shiny with a little use, then so will the Triple X. You can't change physics. If you use a dull ball on oil, you have to clean it and maintain it. Another fact of life from your Uncle Herb!

I have not thrown these balls, but have seen tons of them.  The only difference I see is as charlest said when the balls start to hook.  Drillings aside if you take the two drilled exactly the same from what I  have seen the triple xtreme will start hooking quite a bit earlier on the lane.  The deuce gets down the lane a little cleaner with more flip.

In my hands depending on the layout, the extreme picks up earlier than the deuce and is a lot more overall hook than the deuce.
