Your Opinion please
« on: June 29, 2009, 06:47:39 PM »
Hi I have a Hy-road which is drilled pin below ring finger and cg out from center of grip by abt 2 inches. It is in OOB condition.
At the moment, this ball is too strong for medium oil and below lane condition.
My question : Are we able to do so without re-drilling the ball ? Maybe alter the coverstock or something ? Your advice is very much appreciated. Thanks!

I know it sounds a little counter intuitive, but you could try knocking some of the polish off....it'll smooth the reaction out and the ball won't be as strong on the backend.

I have had mixed reviews with some balls trying to take the shine off for heavy oil or less oil.

That may help for what your having problems with.

Or, you can always add more polish. Best to use a ball spinner and go a little at a time. You can add enough to make any ball go dead straight. So you may want to try a little at a time to find the happy median.

Okay it comes 1500 polished OOB.  Without knowing how strong is too strong for you, I'd do what Danes suggests, but I would try it by knocking the polish off w/2000ab or 2000ab used pad & see what that does.  If it's still too much, try polishing that.

Depends IMHO what you consider "too strong". With your current layout, it could be that the ball gets into its roll too early - but since you do not provide a PAP this is just a guess.

If the ball grabs the lane too early and bleeds its energy, trying a higher grit plus polish might do the trick. You might also try a different polish, which actually promotes skid.

Anothter option could be a flare-reducing balance hole - with this measure, you tame down the overall reaction a bit and you might even get some more length, if it is hooking too early (due to its pin-under-fingers layout).

Does the ball have a balance hole?

Yes it has a balance hole...I might just try to bring the ball up to 4000 grit and see how it goes. Thanks everybody for your advice.

Put a weight hole up from axis to take some finger weight out. Or polish with control it. That will definitely work. That stuff makes bowling balls skid so so far.
