Equation out of control
« on: November 14, 2006, 06:09:38 AM »
My OOB Equation is drilled 4 1/2 X 3 1/2 w/X hole 1 inch beyond PAP,  High Tracker slightly rev dominate.  This ball skids a ton than out of control for me on the dry.  It's fun to play with but I need more control to score.  I have a spinner and all track cleaners and polishes plus abralon pads.  Can I get some ideas on how to alter the surface to better match up?

Try knocking the shine off (1000/1500) so the ball will read the lane earlier & bleed off energy to soften the backends

I was figuring on taking it down, but not more than necessary.  Any suggestions about how clean and smooth or clean and sheen would work, rather than or after sanding?

while I love my Equation, it has concerned me because I have no idea what the grit is under the polish.  I have thought about just sanding it to a high grit like 1500 or 2000.

lane1what - did you use 2000 sand paper or 2000 abralon?  I too would like to smooth out the backends a little.

OK 2000, Clean and smooth is 1500 grit polish, so how would this compare to 2000, or clean and sheen being 300-1100

I wouldn't worry about putting a substance on the ball..

Going 2000 abralon will put the equation without the shine, and it will handle a little bit more oil..

My question is; What do you want the ball to do? I mean do you want the surface sanded or polished?

Whenever in the past I had that problem (mainly with Storm balls), use a 2000 grit abralon pad. This still makes it easy through the heads, allows it to have an angular backend but, makes it controllable.

I agree 100% with the suggestion of 2000 abralon. Go there first and see if that helps tame it down some at the breakpoint. Keep us posted how it works!
