Clean n Smooth
« on: September 09, 2003, 08:27:08 AM »
Finally got my quart yesterday, GREAT PRODUCT!!! I like Clean n Sheen, but Clean n Smooth is everything I wanted Clean n Sheen to be. Took my Mutant, and Phenom right back to how they looked out of the box. It is a tremendous cleaner as well.

An added plus is that this a product that you use on a bowling ball that does not stink. It actually smells like Orange----in my opinion. On top of that, and my dad thought this was funny, I think it looks like an Oreo Cookie Blizzard from DQ. It would probably be a bad idea to eat it though, so don't try it.

Would the clean n' smooth work if I took my Phenom down to say 800-1000 grit and I didnt like the reaction?? It would take it back up to the 1500 smooth right??

The Track ads claim Clean 'N' Smooth gives you a 1500 grit finish.  Would you say that it gives you a 1500 grit dull finish, or does it give the ball a 1500 grit shine?  Storm Step Two also produces a 1500 grit finish.  Have you used the Storm product, and if so, how would you compare the two?  I'm thinking of trying the Track since I'm low on the Storm, so I'm just trying to find out how the two compare--especially since the Track product is a lot more expensive.

We've been through all this a short while ago; didn't you believe all of us ?
I thought you were going to produce the Clean 'N' Smooth results by using the Storm Shine #2, then taking off the polish with Hook-it, because the Track product was too expensive???

(Well, not really a smiley face.)

Yeah, I remember all of that.  I haven't ordered anything yet, so I'm just trying to collect a few more opinions.

I wasn't trying to be nasty; just trying to figure where you're headed. I think both Excaliber and I offered our 2 cents in the other thread.

May I suggest not over-thinking this?
No matter our opinions, try one method or the other for yourself, and see what results you get. If you're happy, stay with that one method. Bowling has so many options on so many things, you can run yourself silly calculating them all. Believe me, I've gone down that road. Now I try to find one (whatever) that works and stick with it, rather than testing all permutations.

First of all,

How much does this stuff cost?

...the Clean N Smooth?

Is there a website for this EXACT product?
Lastly,do I just simply browse to the major bowling supplie
websites.

I sheeeeeeeeeet!I think I may have figured it out!

Maybe.

Ok,i've seen the threads above mine,EXCALIBER likes it,I've tried different
ones myself, but this HEADLINE one, nooooo. Also I've never tried Hook It or the other one metioned in this exact topic either.

I too want a good ball cleaner, whatever I end up with will be fine.

I'l check this post later ta see if I get a spot tip on Smooth N Clean!

My bad!Clean N Smooth!!

Be cool.

Well, you can suggest it, but it probably won't work.  Over-thinking most of this stuff is what we do best around this forum.

I can't help myself.  I keep notes on exactly what I do in terms of surface prep on each of my bowling balls; and even have a column for what I did with that ball previously just in case I decide I liked it better than what I did with it last.

The anchor man on my team (I'm lead-off) is the opposite.  He refuses to think about any of this stuff, ever.  He even used a magic marker to write "DON'T" on the toe of his left bowling shoe, and "THINK" on the toe of his right shoe.  We're the yin and yang of bowling.  He sprays the lane and hopes for the best, and I consult my notes and move half-boards.  We average about the same.

To Psychoballtester--

I've found www.blockbusterbowling.com to have just about the best selection and best prices on polishes and cleaners.  One of the reasons I'm so persistent in trying to find out about the differences between Storm Step Two and Track Clean 'N' Smooth is that both purport to produce a 1500 grit finish, but the Storm stuff is $16.95/quart and the Track is $28.95/quart.  By the way, Blockbuster's description lists the Storm Step Two as producing a 1200 finish, but that's a typo.  The bottles themselves say 1500.

I think Hook-It is the best cleaner I've used.  It even seems to me that it makes the ball noticeably more aggressive if used right before bowling.  It has the additional advantage of being legal to use DURING ABC competition, so if your ball is a little sluggish, you can hit it with Hook-It while you're bowling and get a little more reaction out of it.  It would probably be a good idea to print up a copy of the list from www.bowl.com that shows when and if certain cleaners are legal so you can use it to support your argument if someone complains about you using Hook-It during competition.

P.S.  Exact link for that product list is

Rock, I tried going down to 600 and 800 grit on my Mutant, and it brought it up to 1500.

The Clean n Smooth is 1500 grit dull for the person that asked.

Great product. I wish the would have come out with it sooner. I have not tried the Storm 1500, but I asked a buddy of mine who also has his own pro shop and he said it takes it to a shine. The Clean n Smooth is more dull than the Pro Grip 1200----which also puts a shine on the ball.
