Figured I would try a Track ball...
« on: June 23, 2005, 02:08:44 PM »
The only Track ball I have owned before today was a Contender.  That ball paid for itself the first night I threw it.  I loved that ball, but for some reason I never tried another Track ball.  I went to a new shop today and worked with a Track staff member and decided on an Exception 5.0.  I don't know the exacts of the drill, but I can try to describe it.  Pin under ring finger, mass bias to the right and slightly below my thumb, with a weight hole below my grip line.  He described it as a "sorta rev leverage" layout.  I took it out to the lanes standing 20 out to 5.  The ball rolled early, and then arced very hard into the pocket.  William Clark came out and told me to move 8 left and aim 17.  The move on the ball was amazing.  I've never had a ball that I was able to open up the lane that much with.  After throwing 8 strikes in a row with it, I decided to ask him if he always walled his lanes up like that.  He then told me that he had out a 37' sport shot.  That is the same shot that I'm averaging about 168 on at my home house, although the surfaces are different.  I already feel like I will kill a house shot with this ball, which is why I got it.  Throwing that many strikes on a sport shot makes it even sweeter.  Thanks to all the regular posters in the Track forum for convincing me to give another ball a try, although I know I've never talked to any of you, or even posted in here before.  Lurking can be good too

Don,

I am glad that you are happy with it so far. Make sure you post back once you have used it in your league.

Welcome aboard the track express bud.

What chitown said.......I too joined the Track Express a few months ago and love their balls. My only regret is that I didn't try Track sooner.

Glad to hear Don.  I agree with chi here, if you like the 5.0, you'll also love the Xception on a little drier condition.  Keep up the great bowling....

Wow, sounds like the ball is a monster!  Glad to hear you're liking it.  I wish you all the best in throwing a lot of awesome scores in the near future, and maybe you'll want to try more Track products!  Keep up posted on your success!

Thank you all for the warm welcome.  I haven't thrown the ball much, but I know I will love it and will certainly try other Track equipment to compliment the 5.0.  Some info about the ball and myself.  The ball before drill was 15#, 3oz, with a 3" pin.  I am a medium track tweener, with a ball speed from 16-17 mph at the pin deck.  The first link below is a vid taken in January of my Inferno on a lane that had burnt mids and carrydown.  I have worked very hard to try and stop opening my hand so much at the top of my swing.  The last two links are pics of the layout of the Xception.  Comments about my sorry bowling and/or the layout are very much welcome.  Thanks again guys-I am going to like it here.

Hey Don,

Pretty nice and simple, nice follow thru.  You have a good wrist which helps produce the stronger roll.  I wouldn't worry too much about opening up so long as you're consistent with it, it actually is another form of wrist action that adds to your power.  I would categorize you as being a good mid to a touch stronger tweener.

We have a great bunch of guys here that are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.  If you want to keep up on the newer equipment, we have a few younger guys who "apparently"  know more on that subject then us staff guys...  Welcome aboard bud...
