Finally got to throw the AR and AA
« on: January 25, 2006, 12:59:42 AM »
I picked up a used Arsenal Aggressive and Reactive last week.  I finally got them drilled and threw them in league last night.  Both are drilled with the Pin above and slightly right of the ring finger and CG's kicked out about 2 inches from the midline.  Both have small balance holes to keep them in spec.

I am very impressed with just how Aggressive the AA really is.  This thing is a monster.  I threw the Aggressive the first game but had to put it away as it was just to much.  It was starting to roll out at just before it got to the pins.  So I threw the Xception for most of the 2nd game.

I started getting a lot of over/under so I  decided to try out the Reactive.  I really didn't care for the reaction I got with it.  When we plugged it and resurfaced it, I had him throw a light coat of polish on to tame it.  BIG mistake, I should have listened to Clint on this one.  I was hoping to get a fit between the Aggressive and my Xception.  With the polish, I would have to put it below the Xception.  Anyway, I moved right and threw around 9 with a slight push to 5.  Very nice roll to the pocket and a very solid hit.  I think I will like this ball a lot more once I knock the polish off and take it to 2000.

Overall, I really like the Aggressive as it fits perfectly in my arsenal under the GP2.  I am hoping that once I knock the polish off of the Reactive (tonight) that it will add the pop I am looking for to fit between the Aggressive and Xception.  I'll update my thoughts on it in the next couple days.  I think it will fit the bill with some surface adjustments.

Sounds like you really like the Aggressive..I am sure you will like the Reactive as well...give it some time and adjustments!

I think I will too.  I should have listed to you and tried it with the dull surface first.  The roll was very smooth and the hit was great though.  I'm anxious to try it with the surface dulled up.

I am glad the AA is working for you good, it might have had 6 games when i sold it too you. For me it was almost as strong the gp2 just a little bit under that maybe 2-3 boards at the most.

It deffinatly covers more boards than the GP2 for me, but I think the GP2 will handle a bit more oil overall.  The ball was in great shape.  We plugged the fingers and put a different slug in it.  Once we sanded it after the plug, it looks like brand new.  Thanks again!

Kyle,

The AR is probably going to need to be at 1200-1500 grit to be that far under the Aggressive.  With the OOB 900 grit that AR is pretty strong.

I am intending to take it to 2000.  Do you think that would be too high?  Is there that much of a difference between polished and dulled?  I guess I just never realized it could make such a drastic difference.

Got to remember, while the difference may be subtle, the polish fills int he pores for a while, which is what allows the Reactives and Particles to hook....thus it makes it tougher for the ball to hook that way, in addition to the glossy surface creating less friction as well.

I would start around 2000 like you said, and if you desire an earlier reaction still, I would then take it down to 1500, and then to a 1000 and so on till you find what you like. Don't make a big jump and have it be too much and then have to backtrack.

Kyle,

2000 wetsand is the ideal surface on my Arsenal Aggressive. SO it may be perfect for the Reactive, but I have never tried it.

2000 starting point may not be bad...but you need to take it lower than that to start and bring it up to 2000. There may be polish in the pours of the ball that 2000 will not take out. So sand it to around 1000 then 1500 then 2000. If you want a bit more bite....then go back down to 1500.

I hope this helps,
Carl
