Freak-A-Zoid Drilling

Had my FAZ rilled last night.  It has a 5 inch pin.  I didn't get to throw it after it was drilled due to the lanes being full for league.  I was wondering what to expect with it.  It is drill pin above ring finger with the CG in the palm.  Now, putting the CG in the palm moved the pin like 2 1/2 to 3 inches above the finger, is this normal?  What should I expect when I throw it tonight?

Is it normal on a 5 inch pin for the pin to be so high above the finger holes?  I am just wondering since this is the first ball I have ever had with that long of a pin.

Hey Wylie,

As bbridges states, it should provide very good length and good finish.  as for the 15mph comment, that would really vary upon the condition.  If you throw hard but the dry area is pretty decent (THS), your reaction will be fine.  Only on a heavier condition would you have any problems with this ball getting back but then again, it wasn't designed for that type of condition anyway.  Keep us posted...

I wouldn't be too concerned.  You can always dull the FAZ to 800-1000 to get an earlier roll if the ball isn't starting to hook soon enough for you.  My sister has a 14lb FAZ with a 1000 grit surface, and this ball carries better than her other equipment (which includes a Savage and a red/blue Messenger).  You should find your FAZ to be very useful once you start throwing it, but if not, the guys around the Track forum will help you tweak it to its full potential for you.

Aside to DC-

I had an Ebonite V2 Pearl (the blue one) with a 6" pin.  I had the pin above my ring and slightly to the right, about 5.5" above the midline.  Granted, and sorry Track guys, I thought this ball was one of the greatest ever made and I drilled up four of them....but the RG on this ball was 2.45 and it had a high pin.  This ball with this drilling was dynamite as far as carry was concerned, and it was the only ball I had total confidence in for almost a year.  I still use it on shorter PBA patterns, but it has about 900 games on it right now and has been resurfaced a couple of times and rejuvenated with Columbia's CPR once.  (Which, I will add, seems to be a great product; really restored this ball's performance.)

Not too much more I can add than what has already been said.

The core in the Freakazoid wants to roll relatively early anyways so you should be alright. With the OOB finish if it does not get back as much as you would like do not hesitate to take it down to 1000 or 800 smooth.

I doubt that not getting back will be much of a problem.  I plan to use this for medium to medium-light if it works out.  It will be under my Rule (which is a control drill.  I'd like to stick with a 4 ball arsenal for around here and local tournies if I can.  Arsenal will be:

GP2 (on the way)
Rule
FAZ
XXXL

So if what you're saying is true (which I have the utmost confidence in) It should fit perfectly where I want it.  I will know more tonight when I actually get to throw it.  It's driving me C-R-A-Z-Y having to wait.
