freak / death
« on: January 26, 2004, 02:23:14 AM »
Just wanting to confirm with other folks. General symptoms I am seeing are, very early read, immediate rollout, and no hit. Thought it was surface vs lane condition, after a resurface cycle, still no joy. Ball has around 200+ games on it.

Hey Y,

How did your shop finish the ball off?  What were the last 2 steps??  If it was a Haus, Del recommends that you take sandpaper to it to open the pores after the scotch pads.  Find out and let me know please, the ones I've done have been fine but I don't believe they had as many games as yours.  Thanks.

haus to 1k
taped it with paper top bottom on the spinner
light coat of 3m (2500? not sure on that)

Was what we punched it with, and had alot of success with.

If it's reading early and rolling out, you're probably not using it on enough oil.  If you find more oil and it doesn't hook or hit, maybe it's dead.  Track has since released some bigger monsters, but the Freak isn't very old and was a big oil ball when it was released.

You had it that smooth?  I normally do burgundy and finish by hand to whatever grit desired.  I've done what you did before to a Freak but it made it really smooth, didn't react anything like one finished to 600 then coated with clean and dull (or sheen if you want it a little smoother).  Try it if you have nothing to lose...just a thought.

Strider: I really doubt it's the lack of oil. I compared it to my 3.5 freak, same surface, and getting a really positive read _way_ farther down the lane, whereas they were a bit closer in reaction before.

Tenpinspro: I will try that thanks.

Just a quick response, I have a freak with approximately 150 games on it.  This ball still reacts and hits as hard as the day I bought it, with proper care after use I have not seen the dreaded "DEATH" of the cover stock everyone talks about.  After every use all I do is clean it with a green scotch-brite pad and then wipe down with isopropyl alcohol.
