Mean Machine..

Pretty impressed with it... but i dont think it covers the "HEAVY" oiled stuff, like a soup or a flood.

i can get it to move, but a pearl ball in a flood, wont do much.

robo rule a good step above it?

Like I said in my first post about the Mean...I had my Robo, drilled identical to the Mean, and the Robo was earlier with a smoother backend....probably 3-4 boards more aggressive then the Mean....

I can answer this easily.....


Wed night after the Pro Shop Clinic at the trade show held by a local distributor that had a tournament. I decided to bowl it because it was using the Shark pattern.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Shark pattern...it is the PBA's heaviest pattern. It might as well be a flood.....it does open up after some games...but we didn't bowl enough to open them up much that night.

During practice I tried the Mean Machine (I had nothing particle with me other than the Machine and it is not quite enough ball, the Robo was home). It was just a tad too weak......the layout on my Mean is by no means a strong layout for my game. I ran to the bag and went over the surface LIGHTLY with the green pad...probably taking the surface down to about 1000, maybe 800.

I had time to throw one practice shot with it. It moved...and it moved alot in comparison to everything else around me I saw being thrown. I was watching Awesome Hooks....TS&As.....Scorchins'....among others....this ball was covering more boards than anything I saw.

The reaction was pretty amazing in my opinion...early roll....and abosolutely no loss of backend. The backend I got on that pattern was simliar to the backend I got out of it OOB on the normal house shots around here.




SO, the bottom line is that I was using a Mean Machine that is not drilled very aggressive for my game (it is the ideal layout for mediums for me), and it was not dulled down that much either.

nah you didn't understand what i was saying clint bro..

i dont think its a "TRUE" heavy-oil ball.

a pearl ball - wont do much in a flood.

yeah gotcha clint.

i might be looking for something for a flood - for tournaments, or on a fresh shot.

because all my mean machine does is hook about 4-5 boards, in the real heavy stuff.

Yep..it fits in right between the Robo and Machine...either pick up a Robo, OR, if you can find a GP2...Carl and I agree that may be th best heavy oil ball from Track....EVER. I have had more continued success with the Robos, and the lighter load of particles odes make it a tisker more versatile than the Gp2 (medium load of particle) and they use the same cover, so the GP2 will be able tohandle more oil than the Robo...the wild card is the Robo comes out of the box at 800 or 900 or 1000...can't remember right now, while the GP2 comes out at 1500...so, the Robo may appear to handle oil better, but put them to the same surface grit...the GP2 is stronger.

And Machine, you are right...a reactive pearl is not as good of a ball on HEAVY stuff like the Robo or Gp2, thats just the nature of the beasts!

For SUPER HEAVY LONGER PATTERNS, you are right, but if you lay out a 35 ft pattern super heavy oil, but have 25 ft of clean backend..the Mean will be enough ball...depends on the length of the pattern as well.

Machine,

The Rule GP2 is BY FAR the best oil ball every produced in my opinion. If I remember correctly Clint said that he has some for sale....grab one. It is definately better suited for the floods than a Robo Rule.

The Mean Machine is a solid/pearl blend.....but I agree....normally for a flood particle balls are the best to have.

and plus mine is about 3 weeks old. i got basically the first ball my distributor had.

plus - my mean machine logo on the right (which is now on the left for the newer balls), the track logo on the left (which is now on the right, and alot smaller)..

I missed out on this thread yesterday, from the looks, it got fun.

The Mean Machine is solid/pearl blend......


Because a ball appears PEARL does not mean that it is pearl. DPat is correct. They have an additive that gives the pearl appearance.....but is indeed solid. A couple of balls that were like this were: The Animal, Animal Untamed.

REMEMBER....the Mean Machine is a blend though, so there is actual pearl in the coverstock.
