First use of my Flaming T...
« on: June 15, 2006, 03:43:50 PM »
It goes straight, or close to it...moving a couple of boards at most. That's good. The bad it you still have to hit your mark to be effective. Now...if they make a spare ball that will automatically correct for errors of delivery and zero in on the 10 pin regardless...I'll be first in line to get one.

It looks good going down the lane. I had at least 10 people come over to ask what that ball was and how good it looked.

Track marks are extremely visible on this ball...not a surprise. I've used both Clean N Dull and Clean and Polish on it and they are still there. I can live with that as I'm not going to resurface that ball everytime I use it.

All in all, I'm pleased with this ball. Now I just have to keep my head down and concentrating on my mark to be effective! Of course, that's no surprise at all.

I will probably take it in every couple of months for a good polish job however. Just to keep it looking good.

Chuck, are you bowling on wood lanes?

Be careful with the finger weight suggestion.  I know what Drrev means by this, which is to help push the ball even further downlane so it doesn't get a reaction.  However, if the lane or area you're throwing the ball is very dry, finger weight can and will make a ball finish harder on the backend.

Rememebr, "any" imbalance can show itself if it creates enough friction to transition from hook to roll.  Believe or not, it's the other way I go for guys who can't control a backend reaction.  I give them negative statics so the ball turns early but rolls out on the backend.  By doing this, all you have to do is adjust your angle for the 10 pin to where you know the ball will grab a little quick but at least the reaction will be flatter in the backend.  Hope this helps some...

No...I don't bowl on wooden lanes. They are synthetic, but they are a bit on the dry side. In Albuquerque, things have a habit of being on the dry side. In fact, what we would call medium oil, in most other places they would call light. And what we call flooded, would be medium. Somewhat like, but not as extreme, as Phoenix. With the exception of Silva Lanes that is, at least for the moment.

My first idea is to get my spare ball polished up really well, thinking that will help a little bit. My second task is to practice, practice, practice. Those combined should help. I'll have the weight hole drilled only if these other methods don't work. I do realize that the Flaming T is going to be a really labor intensive cleanup job after every session. That's not a bad thing, just a fact. I like it. A lot. But I think it's going to be more of an occasional use, for fun, to break a slump, sort of thing. Today I'm taking it in to be polished to get the track marks off, I hope. Still....it is a lot of fun to have that ball and was worth it regardless. But practically, my blue dot will still me my most used spare ball. AT least I'm set for spare balls for the next 20 years!

The Flaming T...continued...

The most fun I had last night using the Flaming T was talking with at least 10 people who came over to see it, to ask what it was, and to comment on how cool it looked. It gave me an opportunity to talk up Track Bowling products. It was fun, and that was the whole idea beind getting the Flaming T. And it works...if you hit your mark, like all bowling balls.

Now....Del? Anyone at Track? Does my talking up Track help me win a bowling ball?

Hmmm....do the "track" marks look like dry rings around the ball?  I've seen this before to where I couldn't polish them off either but the house was in dire need of a resurface.  They did it later that season cause it was actually burning a track into the balls.  These were also very old synthetic lanes which had a lot of play too (busy house).  I had to put the balls on my Haus machine to get them off...

The reason I ask is because even on complete dry synthetics, I haven't seen a ball get marks on them except this one situation, wonder if it's the same for you bud.

I hope not! The lanes are somewhat old but I don't think they need to be replaced as of yet. The ball returns and rest are all new.
