« on: May 06, 2007, 03:38:09 AM »
Hi Everyone,

Sorry I haven't been on more but been nuts since my return from vacation and my visit to Kentucky (Ebonite).  Tons of work getting all the guys ready (40 of us) and I have 2 VIP's staying at my house. The VIP's are Mr. C-G Proshop and Mr. FBM357.  FBM357 is making breakfast right now and Mr Hurd is waiting to take a shower..lol  We'll be back on Tues/Weds and let you guys now how we did.  Wish us luck!

Wow, what can I say about my Tag Team member and Big Daddy 357.  The 5 1/2 days we spent together just flew by incredibly fast. We had such a great time together, nobody wanted it to end. Okay, now for the fun part and FBM357's new screen name...

He and I were walking from Eldorado casino to Harrah's.  This poor homeless guy saw us coming and jumped up about 10 feet away from us (bouncing up and down like one of the 7 dwarfs) and yell's out "BIG DADDY!!" as if he were his long lost brother or something...LOL  He wanted to shake Vern's hand but I don't think Vern wanted to touch him not knowing where his hands have been.  So, from then on I just had to refer to my Hitman (and half brother) as "BIG DADDY"...LMAO!  I did it as loud as I could in any public place that I could...LOL  I encourage all of my Legion members to do the same, FBM357 will now be always known as "BIG DADDY"!...LOL

Back to Nats, I used the following pieces:

Money - 360 grit abralon drilled 5.5x4 pin 5 inches above mid line (has a very long pin but rolls very nice and even)

Solution PP - 600 grit drilled 6x5 pin 3.5 inches above mid line (pin sits over middle finger), this is the ball I used most because I wanted a ball that could help me clear heads at Nats but had enough surface to help recover in the midlane and still finish in the heavier stuff.  The surface also helped offset my higher tilt and rotation angle.

Inertia - redrilled to Leong-Hall layout, 1x5 3/4 pin 1 inch above mid line.  This ball actually had a little too much finish for me while the Solution would actually burn a little and kept reaction more even and stable.

Team - 525, bad ball change to the Inertia and threw 3 splits immediately in the 3rd game for 189, 189 and 147 put $100 in brackets, still got back $90

Doubles - Carl and I had an easy 1250 if we made our spares and/or carried a little better, typical Nats.  Spare shooting is crucial guys, scores would be fairly respectable if we made more.  Mr. Hurd shot 586 and I went 176-212-196 for 584.

Singles - stayed safe by fluffing the Solution and Money and only missed 1 makable spare, didn't carry enough or even hit the hole enough for that matter but still shot 194-194-212 for 600.  Spent $100 and pulled in $290 for these 2 events.

Shot info: basically I had a deeper Track shot around 13-14 (at arrows) to about 7-8 at the break point.  It was much better in S&D as we seemed to have better head oil then Team event.  S&D is pretty much a crap shoot cause it depends a lot on who you follow in Team event (no re-oiling).  Team for me actually had less head oil and cleaner backends (which made sense) but I feel with the piece I used, I actually had a pretty decent shot.  Just lack of practice and execution is my excuse for not shooting better.  No one to blame but myself...hope this info helps some of you who are going and feel free to pm me if you want more detail or help in choosing the right piece for the tourney.  Good luck to all and get my some of money back from the casinos please..

On edit: I like to thank Jim (bowl400) for all his hardwork in organizing and taking care of all 40 of us.  No way could I do this on my own.  Glad they presented you with a certificate in the meeting room to recognize your efforts.  I'd also like to thank all the bowlers for participating and making this happen.  If anyone is interested in joining us next year in New Mexico, please pm bowl400 and he will fill you in on dates and times, it's already set.  There is no average limit to join us (I think we had 1-2 classified teams this yr), it's about bowling, making new friends, eating good food and having a great time doing so.  Join in guys, the Ten Pins crew are a very good bunch of guys and gals or else I wouldn't surround myself around them.

Sheesh, did time fly by or what!?  Words can't describe the entire time with you guys!  Yeah, we talk on the phone and BS a lot, but to not skip a beat in person is unreal (meeting for the 1st time).  From meeting guys at your shop, opening your house to our families, meeting everyone at Nats. and playing 'tour guide', who could ask for anything else?  Oh, almost forgot the hours spent making my stuff legal (no wonder my Domination had 5 tons of backend, it was over an ounce!!!!)  He performed his magic and by the time I went to 'weigh-in', everything was 'ALL GOOD!'  A shame things which were planned didn't happen (i.e. cookout in your backyard, etc.), but the next time I'm there, family and I will stay longer! (I'll make sure to bring my apron .. )

I'd also like to thank Carl and especially Rick for helping with my game (sorry Carl, the SHIFT stays! )  At one point we practiced til closing and I drove another 25 minutes to another house to continue practicing. (Neither Rick or Carl were in practicing shape )  He quickly pointed out the flaws and worked with me (1 flaw at a time).  I kept an open mind and completely understood what he was implying.  I'm confident my game will return to the 'days of glory'.  Even our wives got along well

Rick treated Carl and I like brothers and we in turn did the same.  What Rick lacks in physical size, he clearly overshadows with his heart!!!

If an opportunity to meet Rick presents itself, I strongly suggest you do so.  Not only does he 'know his stuff', but he's a GREAT person!  Indeed, both are like brothers to me

Vernon, err ..., Big Daddy,

So when am I going to see the new style Rick and Carl placed on you()?
Carolier and Linden lanes aren't the same without your presence.

(How can I call you "Big Daddy" when I'm almost as big as you are ????)

For starts, I'm near the ball speed I once had (with loft) and carry percentage increased.  Also learned to properly align myself.  And other things that deprived me from higher and consistent scores.

Hey Jeff, just let me know when you want to throw a few and I'll make the trip.  BTW, have you heard/seen Erik and others?  Give me atleast a weeks notice so I can take the day/morning off from work.

How big are you, Jeff?

I can't wait till New Mexico next year. Because my excellent Hitman a55 will be there, causing mayhem with the Dward, Hurdman, and Big Daddy as well!

Funny that guy called you Big Daddy, Vern. My wife's family has a daddy name for me as well.....they call me Daddilac. Her aunt says I am the Cadillac of all Daddies! LMAO

If you and I bowl doubles, Vern, then you should have a shirt that says Big Daddy 357 on the back and I will put Daddilac on mine!! And the dwarf can lug our equipment around, just as long as he doesn't drop it on his head!

No doubt!  Sounds good to me.  Have to find out if they plan to change shirt colors.  If not, then I'll have it put on the back of my shirt.  Had a blast, this being my first time.  Look forward to next year!

BTW, Jeff isn't close to my size!  Much smaller

You have to admit it Vern.  Nobody was going to mess with our group this year.  For starters, we looked like the Tenpins Army coming out for team event.  Second...we lack no size.  Between you, me, Carl & TB, we got a heck of a front 4. lol

gspot_bowl - Rick, did the ball hit a bag or anything on the way down?

tenpinspro (rubbing his head) - No.

Hey, let's keep some things private.    If I don't lose some weight soon, I'll be as big as Vern. I didn't turn him on to that Pensey's catalog for nothing. ALl those spices he used to cook RIck and Carl breakfast with, was my "fault".

Funny you mention Penzeys.  I didn't bring/use any Penzeys spices but I added my own variation.  I wished I had some FoxPoint seasoning to mix with my eggs  I did introduce Penzeys.com to Rick and his wife.  They're lucky I didn't get to grill them something to eat.... Steaks and burgers would've been 'deadly' to say the least.

I still order from the place!  Always trying something different.  Matter of fact, I subscribe to their magazine 'The One' it's awesome!

Try their Black and red hot pepper blend and their Galena Street or Northwoods Fire seasonings for great chicken and steak rubbings.

Btw, Vernon better lose some weight. All those skinny people out in New Mexico next year will see him cooking in that NM heat and try to put him on spit and roast his big A55 for dinner!!   LMAO

Not worry, after a few 8 - 10 game blocks at Carolier, I'll sweat enough off him, that he'll need more than that bath blanket he carries around in his bag.

Did he use it at Reno?

I already have Galena, Northwoods, Ozark to name a few.  The wife loves Ozark on chicken.  I have used all (seperately) on Chicken.  Really like Northwoods with fish as well.  I've also used Chicago Steak Seasoning.

8-10 blocks?  Not a problem  Towels were provided courtesy of Harrah's Hotel & Casino  It'll remind me of football practice

My wife's family being German, their Bratwurst Sausage seasoning is yum yum good! Hell, there are so many great ones, it is hard to pick a favorite!

John,

They (Penzeys) opened a store out on Long Island, NY several months ago!  My orders are still shipped from the warehouse.  I'll have to pay them a visit (bout 45-1 hr drive from my house).

Not mention the other guys and gals all in this group. BTW, any female strippers in the group? LMAO

Bringing the wife, so please.....don't hold anything back, guys!

I am really looking forward to it....like Vern said, it really helps to put a an actual face to face meeting with the family you only know over the phone. I wish we could get Jeff (charlest) out there as well so I can pick at his OLD brain.....lol.
