Track polish?
« on: May 19, 2005, 12:14:02 PM »
What is a good polish that won't skid too far? I have ebonite extender polish and it works good for burnt lanes to give that extra length, but it makes everthing skid too far when theres oil. I also have the ebonite particle polish and it seems to do ok. I just bought the Track "clean n dull" recently and love it. Now I want to give tracks polish a try. I thought about the clean and polish, but I want some input from you all.

I really like a decent coat of Magic Shine.  It polishes the ball a good amount, it leaves the ball extremely tacky, it gets a couple feet more length, and the backend reaction is just awesome.

If you want just a very light polish i would use clean and sheen. It will length without squirting down the lane and if want more length and more snap on the backend then i would use magic shine.

legend,

Clean n Sheen is a compound. It will skid in oil, just not as much as normal polishes. Magic Shine is Track's strongest moving "polish". It gives length, but  strengthens backend. The Clean n Sheen rolls sooner than Magic Shine, but it tends to not snap quite as much.

Hey legend,

I like Track-atl's suggestion on the Clean and Sheen.  If you apply it on a spinner, you can get a little gloss on it but it definitely won't squirt against the oil like most polishes will.  Hope this helps some...

Thanks fellas! What grit would you say the clean and sheen would finish at vs. magic shine? Both will be applied using a spinner.

legend,

Clean n Sheen is supposed to be 1000grit compound. The Animal, and Xception 5.0 are both balls that come OOB with clean n sheen.

Good question....I don't know that one. I would have to email the Track gurus and find out.

Magic Shine is strictly a polish with no fillers, grit, etc in it. To sum it up there is no grit in Magic Shine. It is strictly a polish. All I can tell you about it is that I have low revs and when I put it on my ball, my ball over runs the break point. Storm Xtra Shine does the same thing for me and it is something like approximately 3500 grit, so I would I would guess Magic Shine is in that shiney of range or more.

legend,
I utilize all of Track's products and find each does a good job in its own right.  Clean N Sheen is a great compound and leaves the ball with 1000 grit finish if used on a spinner.  I believe that Track's Out of Box condition referred to as "Compound" is Clean N Sheen.  Because the product clearly has "grit" particles in the mix, I clean the ball with a fine mist of water to ensure all the grit particles are removed.  I also use Clean N Sheen prior to polishing a ball either with Magic Shine or Clean N Polish.  This is a product that really seems to only work on a spinner.

Clean N Smooth is a "compound polish" and leaves the ball at about 1500 grit.  The Track Staffers can pipe-in but I believe that when Track says the Out of Box condition is "mega-smooth" that means Clean N Smooth.  Clean N Smooth adds a shine to a dull ball, but dulls a shiny ball.

As others have noted,  Magic Shine is a pure polish (no cleaning agents) and provides additional length while allowing the ball to retain energy for a strong backend finish.  My guess is that Magic Shine has an agent in the mix that adds tackiness.  After using the cover feels tacky even though the ball appears to be highly polished.  Magic Shine is a great product, but be prepared to deal with very strong backend reactions.  On Wet/Dry conditions this can cause strong backend balls to be difficult to control.  Again the Track Staffers or Track may want to clarify how Magic Shine shines and leaves a tacky finish at the same time.

Delayed Reaction is Track's product that has a "slip" agent that provides both additional length and tames down the backend.  This product is useful on short wet/dry conditions or if you want to tame a skid/flip ball without dulling the cover. This is probably my least favorite product, as I prefer to go to weaker coverstocks rather than taming a stronger coverstock.  Be warned, my experience is that if you use Delayed Reaction, you will need to sand the ball to remove it.  Cleaning even with a compound like Clean N Sheen does not remove the slip agent fully.

Clean N Shine is a great cleaner and polish.  It does both well and is a traditional polish meaning it will provide additional length and increase backend due to the ball retaining more energy.  The difference with Clean N Shine and Magic Shine is the ball is Clean N Shine leaves the ball smooth and Magic Shine leaves the ball with a tacky surface.

Finally, I still use Track's Protraction Polish (although Track doesn't advertise, it can still be found).  I use it on my particle balls such as Track's Mojo.  I find it falls in between Magic Shine and Clean N Polish in terms of finish.  Not as shiny as either of the two, the ball loses some tackiness and therefore, for me, I experience less burn up of Particle balls, while retaining the arc and control.

I use Clean N Dull on dull equipment after each set. Monthly, on dull equipment I apply with a green scotchbrite pad and then clean with water and a dry towel.

On my polished equipment, I clean with Reaction Plus after each set.  Periodically, when the track is getting marked up, I go through a full sanding process, clean with Clean N Dull, then Clean N Sheen and then polish with the appropriate polish.

I have had no coverstock deaths utilizing strict cleaning regimen.
