Which is better, the Mutant or the Phenom?
« on: September 08, 2003, 03:45:00 AM »
Well, I was thinking, and its about time I got myself something for heavier oil. Currently I have a Threat, Ebonite Illusion and an X-Factor, none of which perform well on heavy oil at all. I used to have a Mutant when I was still throwing 14 lbs and it worked well, but now that i've gone up to 15 lbs, I still have yet to get an oiler.

Now on to my question, which is the better oil ball, the Mutant or the Phenom? I don't neccesarily want the most total hook, just something that will go through some heavier oil, and still carry. Thanks a lot

IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU THROW THE BALL.BOTH ARE FOR HEAVY OIL. ASK OTHER BOWLERS WHO HAS ONE OF THESE BALLS.IF I WERE TO PICK ONE-THE PHENOM WOULD BE BEST CHOICE FOR ME. CHECK TRACKBOWLING WEBSITE FOR MORE INFRO.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

Hmm, ok, let me rephrase the question.

Which ball is more versatile?

Also, unforunately, no one in my area has either ball

My favorite part of the lane to play? As a famous PBA champion once said, "Whatever part of the lane strikes the most."

It depends on what you want the ball to do. The Phenom will give more length but have more reaction in the backend. It is very angular. The Mutant will read the mid-lane better and probably give you more overall control of the lane. If you had a Mutant at 14 lbs and loved it, get another. They are both great balls, it really all depends on what you are looking to get out of the ball.

Some people may smirk at this, but the Phenom is the more versatile than the Mutant. Like Rock said, the Phenom gets more length with a stronger backend. The Mutant hits a little harder. If you want a ball that you could have a possibility of using more the Phenom is probably the ball you would want to get. IF you are bowling on true heavy oil, the Mutant would be better, and it would be far better if you wet sanded it to 800 grit.

goodluck.
