WOW 2 vs. Fang
« on: November 23, 2004, 03:46:09 AM »
How do these two coverstocks compare against each other? Which of the two is more aggressive and what would their reaction differences be on the lane if all other factors were equal?

Rock,

Of the 2, the Fang is more aggressive. If all factors (coverstock prep, identical drillings etc...) were equal you would see the Fang pick up sooner on the lane. WOW2 would get down the lane further and have a little more backend.

Overall, these actually compliment eachother well. When WOW2 was released it was very strong...but the standard was changed. Each currently still have their place. What I really liked about each is that the coverstocks as long as kept clean, last over time and many games.

Ex,

So the conclusion that I get out of what you told me is that the Mutant Mania overseas ball that I picked up is actually going to be more aggressive than the original Mutant. The Mutant Mania has the Mutant core with Fang Particle coverstock (same as the Sheer Havoc), except the Mutant Mania is duller out of box. Based on all this, the Mutant Mania should fit underneath my Animal but just above my Untamed. I am going to drill this bad boy up soon so now I need to figure out a good drill pattern for it. I will probably go something like pin below bridge, mb on VAL. That will get the ball to start up early and be useful on heavy stuff. If you have any other input or opinions, please let me know.

Rock,

Yes, that is correct. The Fang particle is also what is on the Phenom. The Sheer was a much lighter load of Fang than the Phenom. I do not know the specs or anything of the Mutant Mania, so I cannot really help there. If it comes dull though, odds are that it is a heavier load.

The drilling you stated is a pretty safe bet. It is the kind of layout that works on nearly anything.

Hey Rock,

Ex hit it on the nose.  Fang sits on the Phenom and the Unleashed has Fang RF (reduced friction).  The only unknown is the load, did you try calling Chuck?  I don't know if Del and Brian are still on the road or not..

If I remember correctly (which is a long shot ), the Fang particle was a larger particle than the WOW2 but there were less of them.  That's what made the Phenom able to react much more down the lane than the WOW2.  The WOW2 is earlier and a little smoother.  For me, the Phenom (Fang) was the first particle oil ball that actually turned the corner downlane.

The Fang cover on the Sheer was a very light load.  If the cover is the same on Mania, I would guess the Mania will be somewhat strong downlane and probably above the Untamed because of the slightly stronger cover.

P.S.  I think Del and Brian will be back in today so you would be better off calling or emailing them.

Ok, I called Chuck and here is what he told me. The Fang cover is more aggressive but not a whole bunch more. He said the Mutant Mania is almost identical to the original Mutant. The load of particle is similar in each coverstock so he says I wont see a huge difference. He also said this ball would fit perfectly underneath my Animal but above my Untamed. I cant wait to drill this one up!!
