X-Blem Rising - Layout help.
« on: June 17, 2008, 01:07:24 PM »
Hey guys, I just recieved my X-Blem The Rising from the UPS guy today. The specs on this ball are as follows:

5-6" pin
2oz. top weight
Pin, CG, MB alignment is ALMOST inline. The CG is kicked about an eighth left of the alignment.

Now, I know how I want to lay this ball out, the question is, will this layout work?

(it's the second layout on this page)

Thanks in advance for the help!

This will be my first Ebonite-Made Track ball, by the way.

EDIT: for picture add.

You should be ok using the 2 inch VAL layout. The top weight it low. You will probably wind up having the cg a decent amount below your midline. Have your pro shop lay it out this way and then scale it before drilling to see where things fall. You may be able to drill the thumb a little deeper to get within specs, may wind up legal, may need a small hole on your VAL below your midline. If this layout doesn't work, the following layout has been great on this ball for me.
Pin 5inch from PAP, 1 inch inside VAL. Mass bias 90 degrees (above thumb). The low top weight and tall pin should put the cg almost grip center so you won't need deep gripping holes and an extra hole to bring within specs.

Dont know why it would be an x-out. My first suggested drilled Rising had over a 5" pin. I punched it up with the suggested layout number 1. Brian I will pm you about the layout you want. There will need to be a change to it.

Confirm the top weight and CG location and if the stated specs are true, I would drill it any way you like.  Only 2oz of top weight is more than manageable, even with a long pin out.

Thanks for the help, guys! I'm glad i'll be able to use this layout. I know the #1 layout will give the true Rising potential, but that's not exactly what I want.

shelley, you're right! I'm glad it has 2oz. of top weight, and I will be making sure the specs are indeed correct.

Mark, i'll be waiting for the message of extra info!

Brian,

What type of reaction are you looking for? This will help in my suggestion on a layout.

Carl, i'm just wanting to really try this ball out. I don't like huge backend reactions, but I don't want it to hook super early. All I really want is a good midlane read with a smooth read off the dry (while covering a lot of area at the same time).. So basically, just not too long, and not too early.
