Xception
« on: November 19, 2004, 04:36:43 PM »
I wanted to add a few more comments about this ball. I am close to posting a review, but I am not quite ready yet.

I have thrown this ball on just about every condition imagineable, and with a little surface added I am sure it would work well on the heavy stuff....not quite as much as the Animal or the Rule...but close. I have thrown on conditions that the Xception literally gave me 3-4 VERY playable lines, not only were they playable...but the ball would carry well from anywhere on the lane also. There are not very many balls out that you can say that about.

To sum up the Xception so far.....if you bowl in a center that needs new pins...but they just have not gotten them.....throw the Xception and get a few others to throw them there as well....and your proprietor will have to replace them soon enough. VERY difficult for a machine to set up a pin when it has been broken in half!!!

EX, first let me say you are 110% right about this ball. 2nd, I am not a one company bowler as I have Roto-Grip, Brunswick, Lane 1, Ebonite, Storm and Track.  The last couple of years I have mainly been Brunswick (Inferno, Raging, Ultimate, Nemisis)  The Proshop drilled their seed ball for me, I threw it on a flooded Christmas tree with lots of early carrydown on wood Guardian, and then on a fresh top hat on synthetic.  Like you, this ball seems to work well on about everything, no over and under, LONG AND HARD at the backend and really seems to keep the pins low.  I guess only time will tell but first impression is this ball will score and NOT just for Walter Ray.

I drilled up one of these with the pin above the ring and the mb to the right of the thumb and mine does NOT handle heavy oil at all. I have kept in in box finish which is polished. I have seen some people say they have used this ball on heavy oil with success.. Can someone that has used this ball on those conditions tell me how the ball was drilled and did you alter the surface at all..

I still like the ball alot and it carries light hits great but just curious about the heavy oil comments..

JKiser, first I like this ball enough that is why I am still thinking about your for sale post, your price plus plugging and redrilling cost, etc.  With that said, this ball works well on the two conditions I previously mentioned.  I was originally looking at the Rule but the proshop guy who just finish 88th at the Masters (Not bad out of close to 600 entries)talked me into the Xception for the carrydown (wood Guardian) shot. 2 inch pin placed under the index finger and stacked it up to go long and store up for the backend (I am a low tracker, medium rev).  So far it has rolled well.  Personally for heavy oil I have always went to a particle ball to get something into a early roll or sanded a reactive to even it out on the backend, right or wrong it has worked for me.  Hope this helps.

Dale,

I also think its just that I haven't given the ball a real chance yet on heavy oil. The house I bowl in normally puts down quite a bit of oil, but last Monday night they where flooded from 5 to the gutter and thats normally where I play so I was having a tough time finding a place to play so after 1 game I put the xception away and bowled 220 something the last 2 games with my big bully..

If I don't sell it, no big deal. I have been very impressed with the carry of this ball.. I'm sure I can "learn" to like it..

Hey jkiser, definition of heavy oil is a small part of the problem here.  Heavy oil for one may not be "heavy" oil for another, too hard to say.  IMHO, this ball out of box is not meant for "heavy" oil, that's why I think Ex states with "a little surface added" and I use mine on mainly med/heavy conditions and it's drilled stronger than yours.  Your mb positioning doesn't sound to be very strong unless you track low inverted which would place your pap closer to the mb.  Our typical earlier roll positioning for the mb would be in the leverage position(3 3/8) or less.  My Animal (sanded) and even my Rule which is drilled very similar to my Xception both out hook it.  Hope this helps explains things a little better to your situation.
