xception drill question
« on: February 24, 2005, 02:32:39 AM »
Hey is a pin below the fingers drill good for the xception or is it best to have it stacked or a higher pin drill, especially if you want the explosive backend out of the ball. Will you still get the killer backend from this ball witht the pin below the finger.

lil,

You still get good backend, but you get much more backend with the pin higher on this ball. Pin below the ring finger (naturally depending on the MB location) is more of a control set up.

Hey lilphyzx,

Typically, a pin up will offer you more length so if you want a stronger backend, that would be the suggested way to go.  The more important part of this is where you place the mass bias because it does control the reaction "shape" of the ball.

The pin up/down however is also very relative to your speed, tilt and rotation.  If you have a lot of tilt, a pin under can also work because it can help you get the ball started a little sooner vs blowing past the breakpoint. Hope this helps explain some...

way i see it:

the primarily reason why you got xception is because you want really want that backend power.  let the ball do what it's designed to do, i say pin above fingers, MB near thumb hole for that go long, then snap hard look.

or you can place the pin higher than fingers, but move the MB placement to mellow out the hook shape for lil more controllability.

Hey fellas my ball driller actually drilled the ball before I got a chance to tell him i wanted a higher pin drill. I was so pissed when i took it to bowl with it and it rolled over the thumb. Now I have to redrill it.

tenpinspro & EXCALIBER are correct in what they said. I'm one of those bowlers that needs "pin-under".

Sounds to me like you need to take your ball to a different Driller.

lil,

If the ball driller drilled the ball incorrectly he/she owes you a ball. I understand drilling it up...but if it hits a hole then that is their fault.

Hey fellas I bought the ball from a fellow ballreviews member and wasnt sure if i could leave it with the same drilling and just stretch out the span or have to redrill the whole thing. He had already stretched the span before i got a chance to tell him to change the drill.
