Those are some numbers but those numbers are from teams that you expect to put up numbers on that shot. All scratch bowlers and some PBA members. Nice shooting guys!!!

Riggs, that was a great blog you posted. one question: when you had your practice session, what balls were you using that worked well for you? i know you drilled up a couple nano's and was curious if the 6" or 4 1/2" pin ball was working better, or if you felt symmetrical was the way to go?

Paul Fleming's team moved into 5th with a 3265 as well. Had a couple other guys we all know on there with him; Rick Steelsmith and Justin Hromek. Anxious to talk to Paul and see what they did as a team. We are going to try and get together to start my work towards my trip in June in a couple weeks.

I'll have to talk to Justin on friday and find out what he was throwing; he's my pro shop guy. Those are truly some great scores from everybody. Glad I wasn't bowling that squad or all my bracket money would have been donated...

I was on that squad that night.

Was definitely interesting to say the least.

My team was 4th high on the squad I believe with a solid 3037.

We put together 3 games right around 1000 and never stood a chance.

That was some definite bracket busting.

After it was over I talked with Jace Peterson(former touring roommate of mine) and Shannon O'Keefe we all agreed we need to move to different squads to alleviate what happened to us.

Don Genalo had a team on that squad also.

Personally I put in only $200 shot a 189-277-210 and got back $250.

Lots of grumbling going on.

Bracket action the next day was diminished I am sure because of what happened the night before.

On a sad side note.

A lady had a NASTY tumble during team event right before we were scheduled to bowl dbls and singles.

Had a shoe cover on(must have forgotten about it after a potty break).

She landed face first on to the lane.

There was no movement out of her for over 20 minutes.

Paramedics had to be called in to help remove her.

I haven't heard how she turned out but it was the scariest thing I have ever seen inside a bowling center ever.

Almost all things are better when they come from Texas.Except maybe the USBC. LOL

Several nuggets got to the pocket consistently. VIRTUAL ENERGY pin up strong at 2,000 actually struck the most. But I was not real happy with anything I had -- wet was too wet and dry was too dry after just a little bit of bowling.

Thinking a new RICO HY-ROAD or REIGN SUPREME (hybrid) at 2,000 may give me a better look. Going back up to Satan's place on April 29 for another run at it.

Doesn't appear that the challenge this year is so much getting to the pocket as it is getting to the pocket properly with ball and release choices critical.

Great shooting, congrats to those teams. Team event is my weakest one, and I know it's not because of a lack of info, lol. You do a great job (as do others) of reporting on the Nationals.

Just my two cents....brackets are slowly killing bowling. Yes, you may choose not to play in them, but sometimes that's all I hear about after USBCs or even local leagues....I would much rather focus on the glory than the $$ in sidepots.

Without the revenue from brackets, how many tournament organizations can afford to run a tournament? As a tournament organizer, I can tell you that there often times, substantial costs to running any tournament. If one cannot expect to at least break even, why do it? At least here in Northern California, I know that tournament action seems to be on the upswing. I know darn well that the organizers are not doing it for altruistic reasons. Just my normal 2 cents worth of opinion.

How are brackets responsible for killing bowling exactly? I could name 20 reasons bowling is getting killed and brackets aren't even close to being one of them.

Like you stated, no ones forcing you to bowl brackets in league, in a tournament, or at nationals. Brackets add another dynamic to league or tournament bowling in my opinion. Hell I made $650 from the Nationals last year from the actual events, but made $1700 in brackets.

Well, I guess my wording is wrong. "Killing" is too strong, as I agree with you, there are larger issues affecting bowling besides brackets.

My point is at times, not always, focus is on brackets instead of glory. It can pit teammates against each other, and promotes individualism over team.

That's why teams "pool" their money together and purchase shares for brackets. That way a teammate vs. teammate matchup will not result in any ill will.

As bass was our team captain, I was also there for that squad on their right-handed companion team. There was no room for the feint of heart that squad if you were relying on bracket money to pay for your trip.

Which is why our 10 guys split our bracket money 10 ways. Then the focus is on performing your best. Period.
