? about drilling a ball for nationals

 I have a nib atomic charge I was thinking about drilling up to go to nationals with. Any ideas of what type of drilling would work best there. My specs I'm not to sure about arouse 18.5 mph off my hand and never really had my rev rate checked but everyone says I have a ton of revs. The straighter I can play the better it just suits my eyes the best. I also have a nib hot rod hybird maybe a good 1-2 punch. Any ideas would be great thanks.

I would suggest going pin down and maybe 4.5 to 5 inches from your PAP.  The smoother reaction balls have been best for me as I practice on the pattern.  Anything that wants to make a "dive" towards the pocket can be your enemy when lanes have less "forgiveness" room.

 I have an invasion and furious both pin down already. Is there still a need to drill the atomic?

so far far in my practice sessions on the pattern, 5"-5 1/4" pin to pap with surface have been the best.

my 5" pin to pap 45 degree layout versa-max with 2000 abralon has been very good on the fresh.

my 5 1/4" pin to pap X 4" psa with 2000 abralon has offered great control off the pattern as well, just not quite as much continuation as the versa-max. i've been told by others that have practiced on the pattern that have now bowled the open that our what we are practicing on is fairly close to start.

if your questioning whether or not to drill your atomic charge, that's your call, but i would come up with a layout for the fresh & drill & add surface to it to control how it comess off the end of the pattern. so far that has been the most effective.

Medium symmetric, pin down, some surface for team
Maybe pin up on the burn, less surface for sure
 
Symmetric is the key or the backends  are tough
Working together is more important than ever this year
Spare practice is very important prior to going

 Find somewhere to practice on the shot first. Print the oil pattern and check local houses to see if they will put the shot out for you to try. Its the only way to have a true feel of what to expect.

And only use the local shot as a concept of what you will see.
It is doubtful that shot can be duplicated other than in BR
the heads are very slick and the backends are very clean
If you use to much surface, the heads will be gone and you are SOL.
At 2.2-1 and 2' shorter this year, it plays tougher
I didn't think it was unfair or un-playable, I had the right equipment and surface thanks to KYLE in the Ebonite booth.
I just needed to throw the ball better which I did not
