Baton Rouge experience
« on: February 15, 2005, 12:42:41 PM »
Not having much technical knowledge, this may not be much help to most of you.  The primary thing that I found was that the approaches were very sticky!  If I hadn't had a shoe slide sock, I would have been in big trouble.

For the team event I was using a Silver Streak Solid, which had not been resurfaced recently so would be worn to approximatly 600 grit with no polish, and pretty well going straight down the 12 board.  As usual with an ABC shot speed control and accuracy were important.  SURPRISE!  There is an out of bounds! The shot held up fairly well as I only moved one board through the three games.

For the doubles I was still using the Solid crossing the arrows at 14 out to 10 at the range finder.  If missed outside, the ball would hook past the pocket.  An inside miss would not get out to be break point and be light.

The pair for the singles had one lane that hooked less than the other so I moved my feet one board right for the right lane.  By the third game I had moved two and one left on both lanes with a change to the Silver Streak Pearl with a 1000 grit finish with Ultimate Black Magic "Plus" polish.

Overall this was my second highest all events in seven tournaments, after Huntsville, boosted by 599 in doubles. We had most of the team bowl higher than usual with one currently in the top 50 in all events and the team twelfth.  We won't be anywhere near there in four months but this still should be our best finish.

If anyone has any questions I'll try to come up with an answer.

What shift did you bowl your s/d? We are blessed with first shift for our s/d.
Very interested on how the Brunswick surface played. Have never been on the newer brunswick surfaces yet.

We're going down next week!  Looking forward to the approaches.   Should be real interesting as far as shots.

It's going to be really weird!  My dad said" Hey you know in about 5 or 6 years you can...."  Oh lovely!!!  Ron House put on the company calendar" taking Maxfield to school ".  No Respect!....    Should be a good time if we're able to keep these guys awake.

mmike-I have SST 4's, had on my slickest sole and still stuck so badly on my first practice toss that it went straight in the ditch.

Outrage-We bowled the 11:40 AM shift so there had been two shifts ahead of us since the lanes were oiled.  I was blessed with the 7 AM shift last year and it was rough getting there by 6 AM to weigh in.  At least with the 7 AM you get fresh oil so the lanes should be the same as for team.
