First Nationals Arsenal...Need Some Input
« on: June 08, 2007, 08:57:02 AM »
Title says it all, i got a crap ton of balls, but i can only afford to take 4 of em'.  I've bowled on flatter patterns before, but this being my first nationals, so if anyone would provide some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Well here's the ball I have now:

Big One (6 1/2 X 4)
Angular One (5 X 4 1/2)
Red Zone (5 x 4 1/2)
SR300 (5 X 5)
Classic Zone (5 1/2 X 5)
Ice (5 1/2 X 4 1/2)
Whirlwind ( 5 1/2 X 4 1/2)
Vapor Zone (5 1/2 X 4 1/2)
Time Zone (4 x 4)

All balls are pin ups, oob, except the Vapor Zone which is a pin down and the Time Zone, which puts the pin next to my ring finger. I can shoot spares with any polished ball, and if necessary i'll drill a plastic ball when i'm down there.  Thanks again

I would think you would need a whole lot of hand to not bring a solid cover ball to nationals.  I found that surface has been necessary, how much depends on how much hand you have and what you are bringing.

I would bring:

Red Zone
Big One
Vapor Zone
Whirlwind

I used my shift, 1000 grit abralon as well..  Worked extremely well..  Shot 619 and 608 with a 170 and 150 game barring some timing issues..

HOWEVER..

I would take the Vapor Zone with 800 or 1000 grit surface.  Angular One OOB 1000 or 2000 grit, SR300 probably 2000 grit abralon, and then probably the Red Zone or maybe the classic zone...  But I would lean toward the RedZone.

You really want 1 of each if you can, pearl and solid reactive and pearl and solid particle..

Spares are key, I would take Angular, Vapor, SR300, plastic......  I don't think you will need the whirl wind or ice unless you are very heavy handed..

Deepest I got was about 25 and that was with my shift.  I am 320+ rpm, 15+mph...

Make sure you take the Vapor--that ball seems to be rolling pretty good there.  Also, concentrate on spares b/c everyone knows Nationals is tougher than at home and spares will keep you close.  Good Luck and enjoy the experience.

Take the SR300 for sure. I had great success with it at out-of-box surface. The Vapor Zone, Red Zone and Angular One will fill the rest.

I threw my Total Inferno and Red Zone while I was there. I used the Total for all of team and doubles and then used the Red Zone for singles. Although I wish I would have switched to the Red Zone the last game in doubles.
