I was one of the lucky ones, used 1 ball in teams. Swerve GT w/compound and a Sideswipe Solid(2000) in dbls/sin. I was able to control the break point by changing hand positions. But there were people on my pair in dbl/sin that did experience the reaction you are mentioning.

Had that happen in team after game two. Singles/doubles we had two medium rev players playing together, 3 very low rev players, and one no thumb medium/high rev player.

Never moved from a 5 board area and made very small adjustments when the oil moved around down lane taking away the small bit of friction.  We were the first squad of the day. I think as the day goes on they warm up a little and may give bowlers a little better chance.

It was also the first of April with temps in the low 70s, I'd imagine the heat is now a factor. We were sweating in that place when it wasn't hot outside.

Last week was amazingly beautiful, all week long. Most of the week's temps were at 78 degrees! Had one day when it went up briefly to 98 degrees....then a coldfront came through and brought it back down to 71 degrees!! Very pleasant indeed.

As for the lanes breaking down gradually........NOT!!! They wouldn't let it happen! It was an absolute refrigerator in there all week long. I heard, and saw many a spectator complaining about how cold it was in there, and our spouses had to wear blankets the whole time we were bowling! Of course we didn't notice it much, but it was evident they wanted that shot to hold up!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Just FYI. I'm sure you're right in that they wanted the shot to hold up, but (and forgive because you probably already know this, but others may not...) All of Vegas is kept cold and bright. Carpets are loud, lights are on, and it's colder than $%^&... It's all about keeping customers awake and playing...

That's nice. They must have had the ac on low while we were there lol. It was early April so that maybe why.  I just remember thinking I'd hate to be here in June or July if it's this warm bowling in April.

We bowled the first week of May.  It was in the 90's outside and mid 60's inside.  The spectators had jackets, blankets, etc.

If I were doing it again, I would use more surface.  I had a solid at 2000 and a solid at 1000.  The surface helps the book hook in doubles/singles and controls the change of direction in team.

It didn't help that the 1000 surface ball had an interchangeable thumb break at the scale
room.  I never got a good feel trying to add enough tape in that ball to use it.

I am so excited to head to my first Nationals. I am somewhat in limbo on what to bring. Right now taking 4 balls with my Hyper Cell, Impulse Solid, Primal Rage or my polished Legion Solid, and my Black Hammer. Anyone got any suggestions on what to take? I am somewhat a power stroker not really a cranker, PAP 5-5/8 1-3/4 up, speed around 15-17, rev rate around 400.
Arsenal

Alias
Paradox Trilogy
Impulse Solid
Venom Shock
Primal Rage
Cherry Vibe
Black Widow Urethane
Black Urethane

Nothing with polish, it will just sit in your bag collecting dust.  I used an IQ Tour Solid at 2000 grit for Team event and a 500 grit Menace for D/S events.

If things go the way I've heard, keep that Black Hammer handy for team.

I disagree on not having anything polished, my best look in doubles/singles was a 1000 grit Radical Rack Attack Pearl and a polished Radical Ridiculous Pearl
