Subs @ Nationals and paying
« on: August 14, 2009, 05:19:12 AM »
Just curious of the opinions under this scenario.

Bowler pays for nationals entry on a team.  One month before date, he decides to go bowl with another team.  Sub is found on original team at last second.

Original bowler wants his entry refunded from original team captain.

I say no because he chose to quit original team and bowl with another group.

Thoughts?

Agreed.
When you pull out of a team tournament, and have to be replaced by a sub on site, your entry fee doesn't get reimbursed.

If someone else steps up and takes your place (say another bowler from your center), that's between you and them.

Regardless - unless otherwise decided BEFORE bowling, whoever bowls gets whatever $$ is earned.

I agree again. I had someone this year back out in January due to back surgery. He may have been able to bowl in April, but that would have been pushing it. I promised nothing, but the guys who stepped in his, and his wifes spot, were willing to pay for the spots so everyone was happy.

I would not have required them to however.

If you chose to leave a team for a tournament for whatever reason, then you lose your money.  If you cannot afford to lose the money do not enter.

Sometimes if the sub and person they are replacing know each other there might be an agreement of returning entry fees if possible but only then.  And its not a given.

In the above situation, did the quitting bowler pay a second entry fee to bowl with the other group?  If so, then that's up to him/her.  If not then they got to bowl and got their bowling vs entry fee.

i agree that the person should not get the entry fee back. especially if they quit and go to a different team! i had a guy do that to us this year too.
my teammates and i have all stated that if you have to back out for whatever reason, all we can try to do is find someone who may be willing to pay the entry fee to bowl at such a short notice. if we do, then that person gets their $ back. if not, then that person is out the entry fee.

the person who quit the team has to realize that if you find a new person, it could cost the sub enough $ already to book a flight/hotel and anything else that comes up on this short notice. now if the sub and the person who quit wants to work out a deal on how any winnings are handled, that is between them.
