What are the chances?

Of USBC’s being cancelled because of coronavirus. I have a major problem spending $800 to go to that shit hole Reno, NV. I can go to international destinations for a few hundred more.

12,000-60,000 people of all ages die in the US from the flu every year.  That and heart disease is going to be a bigger risk to most bowlers then the cornavirus will be world wide.

Canceling is the trendy thing these corporations are jumping on.  So nationals should be safe.

Agreed!  President Trump has even put it into perspective in regards to the number of people who die every year from the common flu.  I turn 47 next month and I have had the flu once since I was a teenager and the only symptoms I had were a low fever and my body ached. 

You have more control than you think in whether or not you get the virus.  Keep some hand sanitizer handy and exercise proper hygiene.  Most of the people who have gotten the virus are individuals (mainly in their 50s and older) who have other health issues and weak immune systems.  Most of the deaths in Washington State are from a nursing care home.

I would think that the USBC would take precautions at the tournament site such as keeping the facility clean and having hand sanitizer stations scattered around the Stadium, or I would hope so anyway.

I think what is causing the excessive panic is the mortality rate of the coronavirus compared to influenza.  3.9% for coronavirus vs. approximately 0.14% for the flu.  If you had the same number of people contract coronavirus as do the flu, the resulting deaths would be exponentially higher than what is seen with influenza.  Plus, there is a vaccine for the flu which helps to keep the mortality rate down.  We are a year or two away from a vaccine for coronavirus, so we have to do our best to keep it at bay until a vaccine is developed, manufactured, and distributed.

I agree the overall panic is a bit much, but I also understand why people are panicking.

I'm not changing one thing in my life due to this virus. It's way over blown. The media is selling this and making money from it. That's the only reason it's as big as it is.

Remember how everyone thought they were going to die in a terrorist attack after 9/11? It's the same with this. You still have better chance of dying from a lightening strike or a car accident than either of those two.

You kids do understand that "news" media companies are for profit, right?  If there is something that can be sensationalized enough to force a person to view the advertisement attached to this "news", the media companies are doing their job for their investors.

Yes this is like 9/11 including the economic hit that is coming whether you panic or not.   My industry is usually the first to see a recession and having been through three of them now the red flags are flashing big time (jobs # today is a lagging indicator). People are a herd animal and once the herd starts stampeding look out.

Like everyone else has said: wash your hands and don’t pick your freaking nose. The areas where this is spreading are the places with lower quality healthcare systems and denser populations where it is more apt to spread quickly. And a place right outside a biological testing facility, but that is a different subject all together. But here in the US, Canada, and other very modern countries, we don’t have much to worry about as long as we use common sense and personal hygiene

Common sense and personal hygiene. Not exactly the strongest attributes for Americans.
