Question on Immortal and Immortal Solid
« on: December 23, 2006, 03:35:44 PM »
I'm new to Visionary bowling balls as I've mainly used Track.  I'm now starting to dabble in other lines like Hammer and Roto Grip.  I'm intrigued by the Immortals due to their low RG and high diff.  I consider myself a low tweener with a lower track so I'm thinking these balls could fit my game well.

I'm looking for a couple balls - one for med-heavy and the other for mediums.  I'm thinking of subtracting a couple old balls like my Xception and Delta 1 (you can see what I have in my profile).  Before I had come across the Immortals, I was looking at the Raw Hammer Toxic and the Power Machine.  Any idea how the Immortals would stack up against those 2 balls?  I've seen the Toxic and PM in action and really like their reactions.  I've only seen the Immortals on Buddies website.  Any help you guys can provide would be a great help!

i have a good friend whom i bowl with that makes the balls from visionary.  you cant go wrong with that line if you know what youre looking for.  they have a very versatile line-up, and much more affordable than some bigger name companies.  i just got an immortal solid, and when i drill it and throw it, id love to let you know what i think.  bud if youre looking to widen your arsenal without killing your bank, let me know

cyzey & Trim,

Thanks for the replies guys.  I'm definitely looking to add to my arsenal w/o killing my wallet!  cyzey, I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of the Solid.  Any thoughts on the Immortal Pearl?

Trim, I noticed that you're on test staff, how is that working out for you?  I wouldn't mind trying that out myself if I pick up a Visionary ball and like it.

Btw, what turned you both onto Visionary in the first place.  I haven't seen anyone throw this brand on the west coast yet.  I mostly see Brunswick, Storm, and Ebonite out here.

Happy holidays guys...looking forward to any more info you may have.

Keep in mind as well, Visionary checks every ball that leaves the factory for quality instead of doing random checks like everyone else does.

I've thrown Visionary on and off for a couple years, great stuff!!! A local bowler here in Minneapolis shot back to back sanctioned 300's this fall with an Immortal Pearl and I just picked one up in almost mint condition for $60 shipped off this site (with almost the same exact span as mine!).

Last Friday in the Classic League I started out with a No Mercy for 268, hit transition and struggled with my thumb release in the second game for 188, then went to a Charcoal Executioner in the 3rd game because I knew with its heavy roll that it wouldn't overreact (everybody was starting to cross over) and shot 248 to salvage the night.

I think Visionary makes some of the hardest hitting yet controllable equipment available. I'm throwing mostly Hammer this year but always have an arsenal of visionary products ready to go (Charcoal Ex, G-3, Bronze Centaur, Purple Ice Ex and Slate Blue Gargoyl). I just put a Green Gargoyle up on Ebay because I have two of them (shameless plug, I know...LOL) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300063391513&rd=1&rd=1

Hey guys, thanks for all the great responses!  I'm really interested in trying out a Visionary ball.  I'm thinking long and hard about the test staff membership as well.  Trim, I noticed you said that renewal was $50 a year, does this still include the 4 balls, etc each year?

For those of you who have the either of the Immortals, tell me how they react for you.  How strong are they (being a low tweener, I'd like to drill them fairly strong)?  I'm partial to balls that have good backend as well...do these 2 balls fit the bill?  How much length does each get and how much flare?  I haven't seen many reviews on these pieces and would like to know more about them.

No, the fifty gets you balls at a discounted price with free shipping.  Buy a few balls a year and you will make up the fifty just on shipping charges.

I havent tried the Immortals yet, but the Green Gargoyle has good backend and at the price, is worth trying out, but for most bowlers it is a medium to light oil condition ball.

kgee, i havent drilled my imm solid yet, but ive seen in action, and it can be drilled very strong.  I havew a friend who makes the balls at the factory in missouri, and that is how i was turned on to visionary.  If you want a really versatile V ball, try the Frankie May Gryphon.  Has a very strong cover that can be teaked easily, and can be drilled many ways.  test staff member would probably be good for you because im sure you will love each ball they send

Any idea how the Immortals stack up next to the SD-73?  I see that the SD-73 has a low RG/high diff rating as well.  I wish I had a better idea of how these bad boys react.  Do the Immortals perform well for bowlers with less hand?

Any thoughts on our above questions on the SD-73 comparison guys?

cyzey, have you drilled your Immortal Solid up yet?  Let me know how you drilled it up and how it reacted for you.

I'm also wondering if the reason why there's not much info on the Immortal Pearl is that Visionary is more popular in areas where more oil is present in alleys.  I know that on the west coast, the alleys put out less oil for whatever reason and I don't see many Visionary balls being used at all out here.

kgee,

I use Visionary and Track, also. I was a Test Staff Member, but did not renew, due to not wanting to purchase alot of balls. When I was a member most of the releases were for heavy oil and I only need so many balls for the same condition. I think that they have changed their philosophy on their releases and it seems that they have come out with some good ones lately. But, the test staff is a good deal, and Visionary is a great company to deal with.

I have a Charcoal Executioner, Rule and Mean Machine. My Ex and my Rule overlap a bit on what they can cover, but the shot is a bit different. I would say the hit that you get with Visionary equipment is very compairable to that of Track. I would/am considering picking up a new ball and looking at either an Xception, Equation^2 (when it comes out) or the Green Gargoyle. Needing something for light conditions.

I don't know that I got a good layout on my Executioner.? But if you can have Rick drill it, I do not question that he would drill it correctly. Thanks to him I have changed my mechanics and increased my avg 20+ pins. Anyway, I have a good friend that throws Visionary and he has very good luck with all of the equipment that he tries. We live a couple of hours from the plant and he will even drive over and pick it up from them.

Hope all this helps. I will send you a PM, also.

I throw strictly Visionary equipment and the IMMORTAL line is definitely a ball above the rest.  I've bowled in a few tournaments lately where the oil pattern is pretty flat and long.  I've been able to use my IMMORTAL SOLID with a 4 3/4 PIN to PAP Control Drill and play parts of the lane (outside 5) that majority of the field are not able to get a consistent enough reaction from, let alone able to bring a ball back from out there on long flat patterns.

The IMMORTAL Pearl is a great compliment with an added punch further down the lane.  On Medium conditions, I've been able to really throw pins around.  I'm sure the other two balls you're wishing to compare, cannot produce the flare or hitting power that these two balls can.

I'm sure you would benefit having a SOLID with 4 1/2 Control Drill (45 degrees) and a PEARL with a 4 1/2 Control Drill (75 degrees).  Best of luck, remember, both balls handle surface modifications very well so once you match up a good layout on each ball, it should be just a matter of tweaking the surface for the conditions you're combating.

Happy Pin Hunting!
