Blue/Green Centaur...
« on: March 05, 2009, 01:52:58 AM »
All I have to say is wow with this ball! I was really suprised at the power that this ball has! I broke it out last night during the middle of the first game when the shot was still fairly fresh. I thought what the heck and see what it does. The ball just made a nice smooth arc to the pocket and CRASH!! This is a very nice piece. It was alot stronger then I expected. Im fairly speed dominate and it makes a nice move for me and its at white scotchbrite pad. I think this ball is going to be  a mainstay in the bag. Im gonna see how it works tonight on the second shift.

I will also have my pin on axis Slate Gargoyle in my bag, that I drilled up on Monday and I'll see how it rolls tonight too.

JMO but on wet/dry walls and THS most folks unless they are really speed dominant and rev less don't need much more than a B/G Centaur and maybe a Blurple or an SS if you can control it and play the lane closer to where it probably needs to be played just like most wrongsiders do all the time.  Righties move in too fast and burn up heads way to soon by using too aggressive equipment like the next hook in the box out.....blow holes in patterns and it doesn't don't need to be that way.....ruin league conditions for all righties.  Dummys!!!

Just got this one drilled up.  Am really looking forward to it, though based on your description Matt and based on what Scott says....wonder if I might try it in league.

Will have to see!!

And yes.....it was a new toy that snuck up onto my doorstep over night!!  LOL!!!

Gary,
Like I said, its stronger then I expected. Honestly I thought the first ball I threw It was gonna hit the 3-6 rather then crush the pocket. I didnt shoot great with It but that was my fault that I couldn't get comfortable at all. But when I threw It correctly the ball made a nice move and did its job.
I got It from my friend (I still have one NIB) who is the same span as me, all I had to do was reslug the thumb, and plug the fingers (neither of us use grips) cause his fingers are bigger then mine. Luckly our PAP is the same too.

This will be interesting then.  Talking with Jason over the last couple weeks made it sound as though the ball isn't going to do a lot, but I think that if lanes are broken down, it might do more than I am looking for.

We'll have to see how it goes I guess!!

I really don't think that was aimed at you, more or less saying that type of ball (or balls) are basically what most people need on THS now and days.

But since everyone and their mom wants to roll a spherical cinderblock it tears away the easy shot.  Which is pretty irritating and retarded.

Personally the strongest ball I use is the Pluto and even that is too strong sometimes.

But, I like the BGC, very versatile ball when you change the cover, strong power in the pocket, unusual high carry, performed better for me 1000 matte.

I have a few of these excellent balls right now: two 16 lbs and one 15 lbs. I have used them with the pin over the center of the bridge (5.5" pin-to-PAP), over the ring finger (5"), next to the ring finger (4") and under the ring finger (4"). I have used it anywhere from the stock 1000 grit (Visionary uses a light grey nylon pad but calls it 1000 grit) to 600 grit plus a high gloss polish, 2000 grit Abralon, 2000 Abralon plus a light polish, 4000 grit Abralon matte and 4000 grit Abralon + polish.

To say I know this ball is not an exaggeration. To say I love this ball and what it allows me to have the potential to do is an understatement.

With a 1.5" flare maximum, this is not a ball to swing from deep inside, even with 500 rpms, in general. But from the 3rd arrow out to the gutter, this ball will turn the most difficult of light oil patterns (anwhere from almost true dry to just short of true medium oil, with its forte being light to medium-light oil) into child's play.

Like Nor-Cal, I have thrown line-up shots or balls where I was a little off balance and did not quite hit it right at the release point where I never though I'd get to the head pin. Then there's 4 or 5 pins laying on the deck and not one pin standing.  Pins don't seem to fly, for the most part, when using this ball, although I have gotten some amazing pin action. Pins just don't seem to want to remain standing. I really can't out it a better way. This ball will bail your *ss out of so many jams, you finish a night or a tournament shaking your head and wondering how it all happened. Honestly.

Just use the right pin height for your PAP and release and for the amount of oil on which you expect to use it. The cover is possibly the most versatile coverstock I have ever used, including solid Super-Flex.

Keep the tiny MB marker (there is "technically" no mass bias, but it's important to place it correctly) around the thumb hole, no more than 1" away, left or right.

I should really pick up a 4th, a second 15 lb one before Visionary discontinues it too.

Thanks for the additional input Charlest.

I don't have any pics of the ball, but I got the Ogre SS first and had that drilled with the pin above bridge with CG in the palm I believe....and this one drilled with the pin to the right of the right of the ring finger and the CG in palm.  The MB marker is to the left of the thumb...and close.

I really wanted to make sure this ball could be played without hand in the ball and still allow me the most amount of flexibility and area to play around.  I like the fact that you mentioned the 3rd arrow out.....that's really my shot as well as down and in.  So....I am really looking forward to seeing what this ball can do!!

NorCal,

Used the Blue/Green Centaur to beat the league's high average bowler 2 games out 4 scratch tonight. (He's like 40+ pins over me.) We won 2nd place (out of 28) in the 3rd quarter, a feat I still find unbelievable. We beat them 13 of 25 points. They were ahead by 10 points so they stay in 1st. He beat me for series but since the team won, I could care less.

The Centaur was a carry monster, by my meager standards.

Wow, cool, congrats!!

I'm gonna try my B/G at Gray pad for the heck of it Wednesday. I wanna see how it reacts with alittle more surface.
I threw it on Sunday for the city open championships for one game, and it did ok. My Crimson Executioner worked really nice though!

NorCal,

Grey pad is the stock surface.
Better have medium oil or higher ball speed.

(Visionary considers it to be 1000 grit US. Maybe they use a worn pad. I don't know.)

Yes, that I know. I have higher ball speed . I wanna see how it reacts on a fresh shot.

Had a chance to throw the ball on two different days.

The first day was a JA Bowling event at a local house that is well known to not take care of the lanes....and they didn't.  Oil was plenty but there was a slight backend.  Threw a couple of shots with it and then when we were done, I threw another game with it and the Ogre SS.  Didn't want to use that as my thought for either of the balls.

Had City next day and the lanes were known to be dryer for second set.  Ball was actually impressive.  When it was near pocket, it took care of the pins.  I did struggle on one lane as the lanes were completely different (B/G on left and a NB Pearl on the other....that's how different).  Still....impressed and it will see use!!
