Lay out........
« on: October 12, 2004, 06:37:08 AM »
I was thinking of drilling out a Violet Gargoyle
for a lady friend. She is a high track player. Her track comes
from out then right by her thumb.

She has tried many different brand balls. I was thinking of
using a pin under the ring finger with the CG kicked out
and a hole in the thumb quadrant.

Since she throws it slow i was wondering if this would help her
keep the ball in a nice roll and having a continuous roll through
the pocket.

She has tried all pin up drill patterns stack , but never a pin under layout.

Please give me your inputs. ...

Jonathan,

I would say to try something with an ARCH layout.  This layout will allow for the Violet to keep a continuous roll to the pocket in a nice arching motion.

My recommendations are as follows:

*= pin, x=weight hole

1)  Set the pin about 1/2 to 1 inch below her ring finger at the 7'clock position.

O        O

 Â          *          x
 cg

 Â     O

2)  Set the cg in the ARCH position under her middle finger along her midline.
3)  Set the weight hole if needed on her vertical axis line which should  be at about 4 1/2 to 5 inches from the pin for control.

This is a great drill for slower ball speed players as this drill allows for the ball to continue arching towards the pocket.  This is one of Visionary's outstanding coverstock designs and around the gargoyle core adds more devasting power to this particular ball line.

Please let me know if you go with this type of drill and if so how it worked out for her.

Thanks Steve for the advice and suggestion.

Since she has a short span (small hands) what pin and top weight would you suggest?

She might need a 2 inch pin and a 2.5 to 3 oz i am thinking.

Jonathan,

She should be fine with a 2-3 pin and 2-3 top.  I would strive for top weight in the 2-2.5 range.  Try not to get higher than that or lower....with the ball speed she has being slow this should fit in nicely.

Let me know how it all turns out.
