visionary question
« on: March 23, 2007, 03:25:28 AM »
hey guys....  i am fairly new to visionary equipment and am becoming interested in thier equipment...

I am seriously thinking of joining the test staff program because  after looking at what u can get, its probably one of the best ways to get new equipment at a reasonable price.....  before i do join i figured i would ask a few questions on here since i dont have a whole lot of expierence with visionary:

 first off,

compaired to the other companies that are out on the market, what are the characterisitcs of visionary bowling balls:  I am very familiar with ebonite ball and some brunswick  and storm as well.... i throw alot of ebonite right now ( angular one, total nv, overtime) how much different are the visionary balls than what i am used to?

next, how "user friendly" are the balls? what i mean by this is: do visionary balls work better for lower rev players than power players or aRE the balls pretty fine tunable

and lastly how durable are the covers?  what i mean is do u see a lot of stress cracks and stuff like that  as well as how do they respond to surface changes

and help would be greatly apprecated

Brian, I am new to Visionary as well, but have not been disappointed. I recently drilled the Ogre and the Bronze Centaur and due to my liking those, I am also signing up for the platinum membership.

Now, as far as the characteristics, I think that each Visionary ball will have its own characteristics. While most of their stuff is an arc type controlled reaction, some of their balls are very aggressive too. They also have balls that are skid/snap. One thing I've heard repeatedly about Visionary stuff is that their equipment is exactly as advertised. If they say a ball will be skid/snap, it's going to be skid/snap. I say this because other companies advertise a ball as one thing and you get something else.

Next, as for the balls being "user friendly." Again, it all depends on what ball(s) you're looking at. They have stuff that is very aggressive and will aid those with less hand and they also have stuff that is not as aggressive that will benefit those with more hand.

Lastly, the covers. Again, based on what I've read, the covers are extremely durable. I have a friend who has had a Frankie May and Immortal Pearl for some time now and the covers don't look tracked up at all. Both balls look as though they are new. Also, the covers take to cover changes very well. I have altered my Ogre and have read of many peoople altering their covers with great success. Don't be afraid to dull or polish up the covers on these.

Hope this helps.

Brian,

As somewhat a guru of the Visionary company, I absolutely love their stuff top to bottom.  Their covers are extremely durable as you will not see a dramatic loss in ball reaction over 50-100 games like most others.  Also, the covers take to changes very well.  I have taken my FM Gryphon from 400 all the way to 4000 and polish with no problems at all.  Like Rock mentioned, the balls do exactly as they are advertised.  I have a Green Gargoyle that I have had since 2001 and it still rolls and hits like a champ.  Hope this helps and best of luck.

Brian you won't be disappointed. I've been using the Ogre and Bronze Centaur for a couple of weeks and am excited to have pieces of equipment as good as this. They roll so smooth and controlled.

Oh, and they hit a ton too. The Bronze just throws everything to the back. It's unreal.

I have used the Bugendy Particle Gryphon in the past for about a season and it was just incredible worked almost all the time read the lane great and hit like sledge hammer. Coverstock help up amazingly well also no complaints. I actaully might buy some more Visionay now that Ebonite bought Columbia.

Covers are extremely durable. I have used Visionary exclusively for the past 3 years, and have only had one crack, due to driller error (me lol). All covers take sanding and polish very well. Never be afraid to change the surface on these balls, however do it in small steps, as it makes big changes.

The versatility in the lines are tremendous. They have the highest RG diff. ball (Immortals) and the lowest the Green Blue Centuar, lower diff than most pancakes).

You will not be disappointed.

I just own two Visionary balls, but these are probably the only ones in Germany... So far, I am very content with both - a Slate Blue Gargoyle and a Frankie May Gryphon.

Both are very durable and have a good proce/performance ratio. I haven't tried the AMB designs, but both the Gargoyle and Gryphon are very good-natured and easy to handle. Not spectacular balls on the lane, rather versatile and good choices for easy playing. Since I had no benchmark on both balls, I am positively surprised and the FMG is a much overall stronger ball than I expected.

This is good stuff, and what I like very much about Visionary is that both balls did as advertised. No hype, no "behold the new wonder of even more hook", just the facts and corresponding performance.

I only have one at the moment, the Scorcher NPT, but I want to buy at least one more. I hope to be able to sell off my Track and Columbia stuff first.

I have always like a very thick shelled ball, and although I loved my Faball Black Hammer and Blue Nail, I find the thick shell on the NPT as durable and and the hitting power of a "non-filler" ball perfect. I  think that is the way a ball should be built.

The only other thick shell ball I like as much is the 1976-1977 MSG Star Trak of which I still have one undrilled and it is a polyester/urethane particle blend.

You will not go wrong with Visionary, and their line is not too big while the other thick shell ball company makes 20 different models and it seems unnecessary.
