There are very few youth tournaments where I bowl so I found the prize waiver for on bowl.com. I would like to know if I can accept up to $500 as the form implies or I must deffer all prize money. Here is a link to the form.

My guess would be no since the prize fund is part of the sanctioning package. If it does not show merchandise as part of the prize fund, it would probably not fly.

From what I heard many adult tournaments are putting it in their rules to either allow or not allow youth to bowl.

dont worry about bowling adult tourneys as a junior and just go adult :-P

Actually in canada this rule has passed, where any youth can bowl an adult tournament if the tournament director agrees to it. If they win any cash they must sign a waiver and up to 500$ is placed into a CTF scholarship fund.

That's the sensible way to do it. Let them bowl (at the discretion of the TD, having some high school and college students bowling is different from letting 12-year-olds or 8-year-olds bowl), just give 'em scholarship money instead. I don't see how it's different from all-youth tournaments and it gives them a much larger selection of tournaments to bowl in, very good in areas where youth bowling is fairly new.

I might have restrictions that youths can only bowl on teams and doubles with other youths, no mixed adult/youth teams or pairs.

I'm not going to move up to adult leagues because I still do high school sports and I hope to run in college as well. If I don't go to a college with Track and Cross Country teams, just clubs, then I probably will move up then cause hopefully I'll be able to hold my own against the better bowlers in adult leagues and make it worth the move up.

i try to encourage what can i say LOL

no i think its a cool idea that they have come up with for juniors to be able to bowl anything... im jealous it was not in effect when i was junior...

it takes a lot of guts for someone who is junior to go and bowl against the big boys thats for sure

the few that i saw bowling the U.S. Open deserve commendation... and anyone else who gives it a shot

THIS WAIVER DOES NOT WORK. I talked to the director of all the youth leagues at my house and she said that another bowler tried this 2 years ago and was banned from all amateur sports. He even had a hearing at the USBC place in Richmond and lost it.

2 years ago the rule was not in place. There was a rule change that allows Youth to bowl in singles events as long as either the tournament deposits any youth winnings into a scholarship fund or the youth waives all the right to accept any prize money. I believe the rule went into effect just befor Team USA Team Trials in January of this year. This is only for SINGLES events. Youth may not participate in team or doubles competitions where prize money is awarded to any participants. At least that is how it was explained at our Association meeting.

Ok. I might ask my schools AD if he is still here. School is out for me and I know he was leaving to go coach football somewhere else. I'll check and see if the new guy is here yet but I'm still skeptical about this now. Thanks for all the info though. I'll tell you what I found out if I find out anything.

That's like saying men on the men's pro tour should be allowed to bowl on the women's tour if it still existed. Or, perhaps that someone in the open division could come down and bowl farm if he wanted to. Not exactly fair. But the other way around provides more competition for the upper division bowlers rather than having a "cleanup" guy moving down. With juniors bowling adult tournaments, there are larger fields with better bowlers that they need to overcome in order to cash at all, so the odds are the junior bowler will just be gaining experience and contributing to the prize fund of the adult tournament. If that's the case, why would you complain at all?
