My grandson is 3 years old.  Is he too young to participate in youth league bowling ?

Not if there's a bumper league and he is able to throw/push the ball down

The youth league here has bumpers for 2-4 year olds.  They bowl one game and just pay the league rate.  If they are up to it they may bowl a second game.  The house hasn't been charging us for shoes during league.

Then at 5 years old they start the next age group and no bumpers, play three games, and weekly $10.

Both are USBC sanctioned, but during summer they are just doing coaching clinics.  New season starts about two weeks after local schools are back in session.

Age 3 is totally fine, my nephew started at 3 and loved it! There are many youngsters age 2-4 playing at local alley, so your grandson should be all good.

the youth league my older son bowls in is 3-9 for bumpers then 8-17 for no bumpers, the 8-17 league is split too.

However it's awesome, I have a 16 month who walks/crawls/stumbles down the approach and pushes the ball down the ramp, then goes back to the ball return and waits.  he's got it down

My son started bowling at 2 years old. When he was 3 we put him in a bumper league. At age 4, he got mad if the counter person asked him if he wanted bumpers. He wanted to bowl for real and did so starting at age 4 in Bantams (no bumpers).
Balls: Motiv Trident Abyss, Motiv Golden Jackal, Motiv Hydra and Motiv Hyper Sniper. All made in the USA.
