Favorite....Just a great ball
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:20:51 AM »
Greetings all!

I love my Favorite and think it is possibly the best ball produced by 900G in a long time and it seems that it has gone under the radar since it is not the high priced/high performance ball that everyone wants.

My is drilled 5 X 3 and left at OOB.

Best ball to read lane conditions with...truly the best benchmark ball I think I have ever owned.  If you look up smooth in the dictionary you will see a picture of the Favorite.  Does not jump of the dry but just keeps it smooth roll. Can handle a good amount of oil also and still have energy at the pin deck where needed.

Have used this on every type of lane condition and lane type. It is the first ball out of my bag every time (yes it is the first ball I use on both the Shark and the Cheetah).  Won a tournament this weekend when everyone was having problems with wet/dry and had no problems with it averaging over 230 for 7 games (6 qualifying and final).

Great ball at a great price and to me it is the ball of the year hands down.

At a PBA regional on the Scorpion pattern, I used the Favorite in 6 of the 8 games. A fresh THS is almost unfair with this ball. This is one ball worth getting an extra undrilled in the closet for when they are discontinued.

I completely agree!!!  Don't get me wrong I really like my bank too! But the favorite had paid for itself twice over already in side pots and brackets and tournaments, and I have not had time to bowl as many tournaments as I would have liked to.  I took my favorite to 4K cause it was just reading a little too early for me at 2K but it kept the same characteristic with a touch more length.  It is the first ball out of the bag no matter what I am bowling on as you both have said it gives you such a good idea where the oil is on the lane and where the dry is.  I never get over under reaction with it either, as well as have never had it get to jumpy on me.  when i get to the point where I have a harder time keeping it right, i just switch to the longshot and its money!  don't have to adjust anything!  Best 1 2 combo i have EVER had

Would it be a good thing to have the same layout on the Favorite and Longshot for a 1&2 combo, whatever your style is?

Myself I'm a stroker..

at first i wanted both with the same layout but decided to put a different layout on the long shot. i think it would be a good thing to have the same layout on both for a 1&2 combo. i have my favorite at 4 1/2 x 4 and the long shot ricoed which gives me the same pin to pap distance as the favorite. if my favorite is too much, i can switch to the long shot and play the same area without any problems. both of mine are still at box finish. imo best 1&2 combo out there.

I did drill both a Favorite and a Longshot with the same layout.
The Longshot I figured I would use once the heads broke down a little bit.
But what happened was the Longshot's cover made the ball too squirty with the OOB finish.
I took it down with a 4000 abralon pad and the Longshot's squirtyness disappeared.
Now they are a pretty potent 1&2 combination.
Its usually a toss up as to which one I haul out of the bag 1st for league or at a tournament.
I have been making it into the winner's circle with sickening regularity this season as Eric Thomas would attest to.
So by all means give it a try.

Interesting I see BTM rates the Favorite as higher total hook (50) ball than what most would think as a benchmark ball (47-48).  I know BTM reviews can be hit and miss but for the most part I find them pretty reliable.  They list the Longshot total hook at 47 which would be middle of the road to me.

I was kind of surprised myself with how strong it was.
My Missing Link is alot stronger than I had anticipated also.
Had to start out the season throwing that instead of my Favorite/Long shots.
But thats just the characteristics of the house I bowl league in.

My 2 Banks can't have more than 15 games total on them for the year and I've easily thrown over 200 games between tournaments and league this season.

Itching to get back on the lanes and toss  my Raw Profit to see how strong that one is.

I have very similar layouts on both.  For me when the favorite starts to read to early, I can switch balls and keep my feet and marks the same and just keep on trucking.  It is nice to have!

I completely agree with you bass, I only drilled my favorite and longshot last week threw couple sets on two different conditions and surfaces and it is the first ball out of my bag now, mine is like 5 x 4 pin under bridge.  It is stronger than i thought it would be even though i bowled on med light house shot and didnt have to move but 2 boards all night i used for all three games.   Shot 743 first set out of box with it was really happy. My missing link is way stronger than thought it would be way stronger than my long shot which has stronger cover but they both have their uses.  Cant seem to pry favorite out of my hand though, cant wait to bowl on my pba league tonight with it I update after few more uses.

Lillen,

You really need to get a Favorite into your hands!  I haven't punched up a Longshot but think I need to get one into my hands. I use my highly polished Break Pearl as the step down.

We had the Scorpion layed out this Monday on 1st gen ProAnvil's and the Favorite was SWEEEEEEEEEEET!  Soft bump 11-8 and was money! Even if I missed a touch out I was in the pocket and had a touch of room right. I could get a little deeper with my Break Out but really loved the look the Favorite gave me. Averaged 220 for 4 games. Once my Favorite started up early I could move to my polished Break Pearl and had play right up the boards.

I am seriously thinking of picking up a couple others as would love to drill one very strong and take the surface down to 1000 or so and then one drilled just as I have mine now but take it to 4000 with a touch of polish.

Ball has replaced the Track VooDoo as my favorite ball of all time....really something special in my honest opinion.

This will be my FIGJAM for myself and Global products.

I have bowled 15 tournaments since Aug''10.
All kinds of formats, patterns and lane surfaces.

As of right now I have won 7 of them.
A 2nd place finish and 2 5th place finishes.
Playing anywhere from the twig to 4th arrow.
All using Global equipment.
With the right layouts and ball surface this equipment can take you to the winner''s circle.
But you have to have faith in your ball driller(at least I do) because we won''t/don''t always agree on layouts.
Maybe I am in a unique situation this way because I will try anything at anytime if I think it will help my scoring potential.
