Fuze Reactive Purple Pearl
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Ball NPS Score: Not Available
The Fuze Purple Pearl, featuring the new XLR-G2 coverstock (Extra Length Reactive - Generation 2), provides cleaner front-ends with more length than aggressive Reactive or Proactive (particle) coverstock balls.  Excellent traction in carry down results in a strong and continuous back-end reaction.  Combined, these characteristics make the Fuze Reactive Purple Pearl less sesitive to broken down heads while maintaining excellent recovery at the breakpoint as the lane condition continues to break down.  High Rev rate players will find the Fuze Purple Pearl matches up well on medium-oily to medium dry lane conditions, while players with more average rev rates will find it best suited to medium to drier conditions.

Specifications are as follows:

Coverstock:XLR-G2 (Extra Length Reactive - Generation 2)

Thank you for reading this review and for the readers that have sent me great  e-mails on my reviews. THANK YOU!!!

This a Very Exciting Ball for me to test and do a Review on. Mainly because it is amazing to me that Ball Manufactures seem to create or have a Pattern to their equipment, as a example for years Ebonite Balls had the History of Even Arcing and Predictable, but Lacked the Snap and Hit, now that has changed for Ebonite. Brunswick has had a History of Early Breakpoint Balls with Aggressive Coverstocks and kept the pins low, and so on and so on. Well Brunswick is now changing the old mold and coming out with some New Balls in the FUZE Series that will shake up the industry. The 1st I will write on is the Purple Pearl Reactive Fuze.

This ball basically does everything that Brunswick has given you info on in the introduction/specs page before my review.

Again, the Center I tested this ball on is the Newly Remodeled AMF Bowlero in Wauwatosa WI. Lanes were oiled 40 feet buffed to 46. Dry Outsides, "Christams Tree Pattern" in the inside with Clean backends. New HPL 9000 lane panels.

This Polished XLR-G2 Reactive Is a Georgous Purple Pearl Reactive. It is probably one of the best looking balls I have seen and have drilled. This new Reactive Coverstock gets through the driest heads with ease and stores the energy for where it counts, on the backends. I drilled my Fuze with the the Pin 3 3/4 from my P.A.P. and had the Cg. Off to the Right of my Grip Center. Because of the Low flare of this ball of only .023 Diff. stronger drillings should and can be used especially for the stroker/tweener's. Crankers can back off a little on the layouts.

I compared this ball to Red/Black Monster and My Parker Bohn M.V.P. The Purple Pearl Fuze was Cleaner through the 1st 15 feet and had good hook through the puddle in the center, it did not back up like most polished reactives do, or what we call under reacted, and when it made the turn to the pocket, it was beautiful, very strong but predictable, I knew it was there in the pocket when it came was off my hand, no skid/jerk here, clean and strong is a better description here . It was more predictable than the Parker and hit harder than the Red/Black Monster. This ball did not leave One ten pin in 3 games on Bowlero's house pattern. I have not seen a ball hit like this one from any other Brunswick ball in awhile, along with how clean it gets down the lane, no early here. Truly a awesome ball for Medium oily to Medium Dry.

In closing, I get asked all the time, what's the difference between the $150 reactive verse the $210 reactive ball. Before this ball came out, my answer would be not much, they all react pretty close. I cannot say that about this one, it is clearly that better of a ball reaction for the money and justify's paying the extra amount for this Top of the Line Reactive. Enjoy this ball.

Thank you for reading my review and good luck with you're bowling futures.

Dwight

This is the first Brunswick ball I ever owned after my impact zone. It is such a great ball. It go long and snap to the packet. The only problem that I am having with this ball is that, when there is not much oil on the lane, and a very dry backend, it will snap to hard and miss the packet. Just like the other viewer said. And when there is a lot of oil, it will go too long. It did what the Brunwicks infomation sheet said. I think the best condition for this ball is medium oil on the center and with some carrydown.

what an impressive ball and surprising that it actually delivers as promised. i've tried many b-balls that were supposed to deliver the lengh that this ball gets. the last few months due to an injury, i haven't been to produce the ball speed needed to save enough energy to drive thru the pins w/ power. after reading lefty testers review i laid the ball out w/ a 4" pin and 3 1/2 in cg. {i have much less hand than he does}. thanks b-ball!does this hit and carry or what. nice to hear a crisp sound as the ball hits the pocket again.this ball is a BIG improvement over the x-zones and hits MUCH harder than any 3-pc i've ever rolled.

What more can be said about this ball that Dwight hasn't already said. One thing I look for in a ball is, Does it do what the print material says it does? For this ball and its Big Brother Navy sparkle, they both get a resounding yes.

Nice compliment to the Navy Sparkle.  Many people would like more hook for a high end priced ball, but the controllability that this ball provides is very reminisant to a past Ball of the year, The AMF Bullwhip.  Not as much rev but the predictability off your hand is almost the same.  I know off my hand shot to shot what if anything I'm going to leave.

Again a break from the traditional Brunswick tumble mold. This ball can actually turn the corner and not be breathing hard to do so.  If this is Brunswicks new direction...they're heading the right way.

Wanted a mid oil ball but ended up with a dry lane ball instead. Got the Fuze with a 2-3"pin with the pin about a inch to the right of the fingers and the CG kicked in under the ring finger. Ball goes nice and long, and will get a nice late snap at the pins. Had tried to get it to hook more by hitting it with 1000, but this ball shines(no pun intended) when hit with finesse-it.

I have to agree with most ppl about this ball. I bought this ball with pin postion 3-4in out. I used the standard number three drilling on this ball and love it. I am able to use this ball in 3 diff. house. This ball goes long until it hits the dryboards and comes back fairly strong with a good amount of power.
I normally play this ball around 20 and 6 and have a good sucess with this ball.  Overall for my game "18mph with about normal amount of rev's" I rate this ball a 10 out of 10.

Update. I have used this ball for about three weeks now on all types of
condtions. I find it works best on light to med. oil. I carry a 194 average and have shot 661, 669, 675, 691, 698 since I have bought this ball. I have alot of differnet types of balls but when I come to the light to medium oil everything else stays in the bag. I find this ball for me is best for me to play 20 to 7 most times. I haven't been able to swing this ball like I do my defcon but I find this ball easy to play and carry better on the right patterns. Easily the best ball I have ever owned.

Hello All,
Have been looking for a ball that would allow me to play more down the boards in a house that insists on using a wall pattern. Trying to swing the ball in this house is difficult to find a consistent line. Had been trying a Columbia Ti Messenger, and a Rotogrip Pearl Assault.

I am a right hander, medium speed, with more than average revs. In the house in question in trying to cross boards the shot is typically 20-25, out to 6-10 and back. This shot gets more difficult as the night progresses.

So, had the Purple Pearl Fuze recommended to me. Took this ball with me last night for the first time. Ball is drilled pin at about 3:00right of the fingers, cg about 1 inch right from the center of my grip. No weight hole.

Tryed the ball second and third game, shot 219-228, with 2 missed spares. This ball allowed me to throw easy, about 15 out to 8-10, making a nice smooth turn to the pocket. Awesome ball. If I got it in the pocket, it struck. No 10's. I did have 2 washouts when I missed outside and it did not get back. I'll take that compared to the other problems I have been fighting. So far, I think I have found my answer. If you are looking for length, a way to play up the boards, this is a great alternative. I may have a new favorite, even though I love my Pearl Assault.

Thanks,

Have two of these, one drilled with a 6 inch
pin placement with the cg kicked out a little
(basic power players layout)
Very impressive reaction, reaction seems similar
to a low-diff x-zone (with the same pattern) with a
little more reaction to the dry boards.
2nd drill 4 x 3 with weight hole 2 inch down on VAL
used a little more surface, much smoother and eariler
reaction than first one, great reaction on tighter cond.
providing you have hand to make it turn the corner.
Over-all, one of the better Brunswick balls, great
selection for power-players.

This is one of the more interesting balls I've ever used.

It is not for some reason immediately user friendly.
Note some of the mediocre reviews.  The ball I can most closely compare it to is the wonderful and great command Zone(see my review if you want).

The two balls have a covestock that appears to be very similar very clean and very smooth reaction on the dry for a reactive.  This ball is drilled with a 3 inch pin out with the pin to pap up and 3 3/4 and the pin to cg at 4 1/2.
Label leverage really.

When you first get this ball it seems to be all over the place, sometimes missing the head pin low and then making a strong, strong move at the back.
This ball clears the heads really well with its clean (like ncontrol powerstock from command) and absolutely beautiful cover.  It does not rev very early(command revs much earlier with its doorknob core). and then it starts to make a rounded move to the hole without any jump, however it smoothly increases angle to the pins and has incredible continuation thru the rack with awesome carry.

All of sudden now the ball impresses after about 4 practice sessions with it it is now covering about 3 to 4 more boards than the command zone all at the back and striking the pocket with almost as much consistency as the command with even more carry!

I'm going to try it in a tournament this weekend.
Why this ball is such a dud at first I don't know but it gets very good in less than a week.

This reaction I am describing I believe is truly unique, Brunswick says clean thru the heads and continues its move on carrydown.  I thought what a bunch of marketing bs!  They may be right the move is so smooth at the breakpoint one can't believe it.

Give this ball a little time when you purchase one and I don't think you'll be disappointed.  Don't give it time and you may be.

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS. During my practice session I was bowling with a better bowling Senior PBA member who can really hit the hole and occassionally has carry problems.  He was using a dulled red fuze(great ball) but on this condition he was leaving flat 10 after flat 10.  I was clearing rack after rack with this glowing purple orb and its greater amount of energy at the pins on this medium to lighter pattern.  (Don't people get it its energy retention baby!!!)
PSS this beauty is for sale on the auction, but it might not be for long!!!
One can see the ball continuing to rev all the way thru the pin deck.
It takes Courage to have Faith, and Faith to have Courage.

Update on my previous review. Still a great ball for length, this ball allows length while maintaining power. Last night, about the 6th set with this ball, 208-209-298. Nuff said!

Ball specs:  15lbs.,11oz., Pin:  2-3", TopWeight:  3.6 oz.
Pin placement:  1/4" next to ring finger, CG:  half-way between thumb & ring finger hole.
A pearlized purple beauty!  Goes long and heads for the pocket on the backend like a "hocky-stick" shape.  Very controllable with good hit and power. Great "go-to" ball when nothing's working.  When the lanes breakdown, eventually you'll need a ball like this! Similar in reaction to the Monster ScreamR I think.  Anyone care to comment between the two?.
Polished up(most if not all of my equipment seems to work best for me that way),very useful for medium-dry lane conditions and if there is carrydown.  Comes out when lane conditions get tougher and my other equipment isn't working for me.  Saved my game, my average and my team on the third game in league last week.  We swept our opponents again for a change!
Compliments the Raging Red Fuze beautifully.
Another great FUZE from Brunswick!!!

P.S., Great site!  Keep the thoughtful & objective reviews coming!

Wow there is so much to say about this ball!
First off, I have never seen a ball that can be used on such a wide range of conditions.
It revs up real well and fairly early and actually looks as if it will make a move a LOT sooner than it really will. I do have to say it doesn't roll to nice at all. The cover really makes up for it. The cover provides exceptional length even when the heads are burning up some. Can be used on med-heavy to med-dry conditions as long as there is any dry in the backends. Carry down doesn't hurt the reaction at all, it always stays long and strong. It does make a huge move in the backends, but it really is controllable and you can precisely change the backend reaction with differing hand positions.

I would have to say it does better suit a higher rev rate. I have seen some lower rev rate bowlers use it and it the ball never impressed me and especially didn't impress the bowlers.

Well I bought this ball for more length down the lane.  It does that but a little disappointed on the recovery down the lane.  It is a smooth arc instead of a snap.  That being said...it hits like a ton of bricks.  If the back end is very dry or dry outside it will come back hard and you will not leave anything standing.  Other wise you need to play inside and stay there or up the line, maybe 10 to 5.  Overall...I would rate it 8 out of 10.
