Brunswick has bought Ebonite!!!!
« on: November 15, 2019, 06:25:56 PM »
No joke. Can’t believe it. More details to come. I heard it earlier and thought my friend had the info reversed. Made a call and I am floored.

Is it my imagination, or did Ebi seem to loose its Mojo ever since Ron Hickland left?

Track. Columbia. Ebi.... so sad.   Quick, name 5 innovative balls from these lines that anyone uses these days (no fair using recycled names like Heat or Chaos).  You just can't.... and heck, Hammer still living off the Black Widow, Vibe, and Purple Urethane.

Motiv rose from the ashes of the old Brusnwick factory.  Hopefully this brings them more USA-business.  They really make some fine product.

And who knows, maybe another niche product will rise from the ashes once again.  Phoenix Bowling!

Going to stay out of a brand sniping war but Motiv did build their own factory in Michigan.  You probably knew this but I didn't until recently.

Built it with discarded Jackals ?
no, money from making Brunswick cores. It's amazing how 1 company couldn't survive in the area but another was able to buy the old machines and get to work right down the street. 10 years later and going strong in Muskegon. Heh, who knew a bowling company could stay profitable 10 years later paying American salaries...

One company survived there for decades.  Business is more then just surviving. Moving production and building a new state of the art facility is more then surviving.  Buying out four brands is more then surviving.  Recalling two high performance bowling balls and almost going out of business because of old equipment is trying to get by and survive. Bowling is shrinking. Surviving just got harder
Brunswick was bought out in 2015. I wonder why? Was it for the same reasons EBI was just bought out?

Better yet, I raise you the recall of 2 bowling balls that you bring up. Did they replace every one with a new ball? And now,are they not a growing force in a shrinking market? Yeah, you can wear your B crown proudly Kidlost, but we all know the clearance section tells the story. B has littered it for years due to over production of unwanted equipment. Now, they will do that with 6 brands as opposed to 3, sans Hammer. Enjoy!

So if I throw Storm/Roto/Global (I throw Global now?), does this make me one of those real Americans that the Hulk Hogan theme song alluded to?  :P

Let me tell you something brother (rips off Hulkamania shirt)

The Tropical Surge is. I believe the Mix balls are made overseas. Not sure about the polyester options.

You aren't offending anyone by not throwing a certain company. Enjoy your blems. You will have even more to choose from in the near future.

Im not trying to offend anyone over not using a brand.  Didn't like the reaction.  Brunswick has the fewest number of blems. As stated earlier they will not be available from the Ebi brands going forward like they were when made in Kentucky.

The Ice Storm and Tropical Surge are poured by Brunswick, unless something very recently has changed.  They carry the same label "designed in the USA made in Mexico" as the others manufactured in that plant.

Is there a source for this? Or just an assumption from a Brunswick fan?

Now that I think about it, I can't remember seeing a Motiv blem or factory 2nd. No doubt they have them, but I have not seen any.

Brunswick has plenty of blems.  I currently have 3 Brunswick blems; a 2nd quality Vintage Danger Zone, a blem DV8 Pitbull, and a blem Radical Ridiculous.  Brunswick blems are regularly available on eBay.

As production of the Ebonite brands ramps up in Mexico, there will be plenty of blem/2nd quality balls available.

Was told 70 to 80 a month.  Yes ive seen them on ebay from one seller.  Of the ebi brands they are easily found on ebay,  distributors,  and bowling.com That was a lot.

My only concern going forward is on the coverstocks.  I love the reaction I get from the ebi brands on the skid snap side of equipment. Got a few more ebi balls to pickup to set back for later

I don't buy Motiv equipment because of "100% made in the USA"; even though that is a very good reason.
I have tried just about every brand out there.  And there are a few balls that are special.  However, I buy mostly Motiv simply because they work for me. I LOVE their equipment and the 100% USA is an extra bonus.
I personally will be thinking and praying tomorrow for the 170 employees of EBI who lost their jobs in Michigan.  Hope all who love bowling will say a prayer for them tomorrow and hope they find another good job soon.  Happy Thanksgiving to all of you on BR.

I'm mostly an EBI guy, but over the past 2 months I bought many of the new Brunswick/DV8/Radical releases. The Prism Hybrid does great on the skid/snap side of the ledger. Overall I'm liking the Brunswick coverstocks.
