Radical concerns/woes...initial impressions
« on: August 28, 2006, 03:10:20 PM »
Lefty
STROKER/tweener

Radical Inferno
Drilled Pin left of ring, CG stacked under, small X-Hole.

Lanes were THS, fresh for the most part.

In all honesty, this ball had the exact same reaction as my Equation, and thats both good and bad.  Good in a sense that I love the reaction my Equation gives me, Bad in a sense that I don't want the ball to react that way.  Same mid-lane read, same length, same reaction on the back end, sometimes less backend then my Equation.

This ball didn't give me the amazing backend that people were raving about.  The only way I could get it to cover any boards was to play down and in over the 10 board.

I was reading the spec sheet and this ball is 400 grit under the polish.  So the ball may in fact have been burning up on me.  I know this ball is supposed to take cover adjustments very well, so what do you guys recommend?  Whats been working well?  When I used my Agent which was 600 grit under 1500 grit polish, I had to bring that up to 1000 grit abralon plus the polish to make it move.  Should I try the same thing?

Dude...were you watching me bowl with my Radical tonight?  Everything you just said, SAME EXACT STUFF HAPPENED TO ME!

Except for the thing about the Equation....I don't have one lol.

I don't like the Radical one bit.

well, have you read the additional product sheet that came with the ball??  Here is part of it word for word:

"If you bowl on a lane condition where you Radical Inferno goes too long and struggles to make a strong backend move, Brunswick strongly recommends that you remove the polish from the ball with a burgundy Scrotch Bright pad, or similar agressive abrasive, then use the Grey and White Scotch Bright pads or the 500 & 1000 grit Abralon pads to create a dull, but very smooth surface finish."

I'd try that first because people have talked about having success with the ball after surface adjustment.  You might be throwing away a ball that you might really like in the long run.

Noy, just picked up the sheet you were talking about..it was hidden deep in the box lol.

So my question is now....based on what they're saying....sand off the polish with the burgundy pad first...then use the grey...then after using the grey, use the white to finish it off??

I don't have a lot of experience with adjusting the covers.....as you can tell lol.

yes...exactly as you said, but grey and white pads are hard to find i hear.  I think it would be easier to bring it to your proshop and have them sand the polish off, then hit it with a 500 abralon then a 1000 abralon.  Will be much smoother and no lines on the ball.

Yea I have both the Burgundy and the Grey, and I am 99% sure we sell the white at walgreen's..where i work as a 2nd job.  I'm going to email my driller and see how much he's going to charge me for the resurface....if it's too much I'll do it myself

Wouldn't a dull surface, however high of a grit, defeat the purpose of the ball?  Wasn't it supposed to be this skid/snap demon?  It's not burning up, trust me.  I've thrown it on a pattern with HEAVY head oil and screaming backends.  It doesn't seem to want to rev, it's all cover.  Don't get me wrong, slow your speed up a little, and the ball becomes a monster.  It seems to like drier shorter patterns, but at the same time, an inside angle.  That's what the trick is.  Try moving right and it wants to move pretty early.  The biggest problem seems to be that it's a GOOD ball, but there's inevitably something else you have in your bag that's better.  My Red Zone is going to be the first ball out of the bag from now on, but the Radical is going everywhere . . and I only carry two balls.  It's already proven itself, it's just a little sensitive and quirky.
