Sniper not working for me :(
« on: March 08, 2006, 01:16:31 AM »
But I do like the hit, and feel like it's a quality ball.  I just recently realized that I'm a speed dominant player, and I benefit much more from lower RG cores.  I'm too often throwing the Sniper past the proper breakpoint, and not really getting it into a good roll.  I don't blame the ball, I blame the operator!

But anyway, maybe I could get a recommendation for a low RG DT piece to replace the Sniper?  I have a trade post up now, and am open to suggestions!

Ummm....not trying to be a smarty here but didn't you just go thru the same thing with the Smokin' Inferno?  Just wondering?  Seems like you choose the same type of ball to replace the Smokin'???

Spend the $ of good coaching and save buying ANOTHER ball IMO.  There ain't no easy fix to bowling sucessfully on many different conditions whatever some "pro" ball shill may say about the next great hook in a box.  You've got issues fix 'em I say.

Some way some how you should be able to use what ever you have for equipment and still get to the pocket.  It may not be optimum but it will do the job.

Wals are built for us hacks use them I always say.

Why don't you use your V2 Power when your Sniper "squirts"??

I've actually been using just one ball lately, my Uturn Pearl.  I just seem to have softer hands with it for whatever reason, and I have been having success with it.  When I was looking for a ball and decided on the Sniper, I didn't realize that I was speed dominant until I did go and get some coaching.    So I am doing both, I just now know a little bit better what kind of ball can help me more!

Sound like your fit might be the problem with your Sniper.Or perhaps you need to tweak the surface with say a Green scotch brite(600 grit)to get the ball into a roll sooner.

Here is what I have been doing:

I have been bringing only 2 balls plus plastic, and trying to use only one ball for as much of the set as possible, which turned out to be the UTP.  I was bringin the UTP and the Sniper, in hopes of using the Sniper when the pattern eventually forced me further inside, when I could no longer get the UTP to hold the line.  (The problem with the UTP when I move in deeper is a lot of over/under.)  I do intend to start bringing the V2 Power in place of the Sniper starting next week.  I've NEVER been able to throw that through the breakpoint, and I realized that is due in part to its low RG.

I did not match up with my sniper either.  Not sure what it was I didnt match up since I love my black vendetta.  Guessing cover and drilling didnt match up well.  Sometimes It just happens that way.

I was having a hard time liking my ZR40 until last night.  Hadn't relly found a condition/line that would let me score well, but finally did.

Sometimes we just try to make a ball play the wrong line for the condition.  Not saying that's what you're doing, but I started stringing strikes and went  "OH!!! this is why people like this ball!" I'm sure the Sniper would work well for you on some patern with some line, but it might not happen on your home lane.  I'd give it a little more time/expirementation...Don't try to make a ball play a certain way.  There is always a good scoring line on most house shots, the trick is finding which balls play which areas better for maximum scoring.

I have been able to score well on a variety of conditions with my Pure Energy and my High Energy both polished and OOB.  If you really want another ball I would consider both of those.  They both cover about the same amount of boards on most conditions (Pure just a couple more) and I've never thrown either past break point except when the High was polished.

Anyways good luck...I'm in the same boat average-wise as you are, but feel like I should be around 200 every night.  I averaged over 200 thru January and beginning of Feb, but when into a mini funk where I kept pulling and trying to tweak everything on my approach instead of just throwing the ball.  I finally got out and chucked a 638 with a 255 the first game (with an open and 10 X's).

I will probably keep at it with the Sniper, unless I get an offer for something that I really want in a low RG.  It does seem to hang just a little bit on my thumb, and that may be contributing to my problems with it.  I have had success with the ball in practice on a synthetic surface, but I'm having real problems when I try to use it in leagues, which is in a house with older wooden lanes.  I did hit the surface with a green pad just a bit to give it more bite, but I think I'll take it to my proshop and have it brought back to box, or maybe to 1500.  As it is now it seems to have too much bite for my comfortable, outside line, but not enough to turn the corner from deeper inside, where it tends to sail through the breakpoint.

High Energy, Pure Energy, CM, & Thing Lives have lower RGs.  CM has been very versatile for me.
