GameBreaker
« on: October 06, 2008, 08:29:35 AM »
I'm thinking of getting a GB and debating how to do drill it. I want this to handle med/heavy oil. I know the core is very early rolling which makes me want to drill pin under but a friend of mine who bowls regionals says to drill it pin up. He says that it will give me better finish but still have the early roll in front.

Give me your insights and experiences with the ball.

Thanks.

If your ball speed is high, go pin below ring or about 4" from pap.

If your ball speed is low, go pin high about 4.5" from pap.

I drilled mine pin 4.5" from pap, but it is drilled pin almost under bridge and not pin high. So far I am not all that impressed with it's hitting and carry power. I will say that that ball does HOOK! It is the first ball I have ever owned that I can move left a bit (which isn't my game) and throw right and get it to come back to the pocket. Maybe it is because of my 15 mph speed and low revs that it doesn't carry well, I don't know. I probably average approx 7-8 ten pins to one strike with it regradless of what angle I try to play and when I do get astrike with it, it isn't an impressive hit/carry. I'm sure that sanding it to 4000 grit Abralon might help it as well as maybe a light coat of polish, but at the moment I don't want to adjust the cover as I want to keep it as it is for awhile and wait to see if there might be a condition it will perform better on. And yes, before someone says there might not be enough oil......there is plenty of oil. Ask Mike Austin if you doubt me.

Meanwhile, now the Playmaker, that ball is second to none. That ball gets thru the heads so well and seems to reserve all of it's energy for when it hits the pin deck. That ball hits, mixes and carrys like no ball I have ever had. All I can say about it is WOW! Between the Playmaker and the Twisted Fury Pearl, I can cover most of the conditions in the house I bowl in, thus another reason for not adjusting the cover on my Gamebreaker.

Just be sure to have a Revivor or a Rejuvenator oven close by to do the rejuvenation every 40 - 50 games.

Forwarned is forearmed.

Doc's Magic elixir.
Brick a tiny shot of polish made a big difference in carry for me. (Actually two shots)

Ok here is my problem with the GB. I drilled one last year when it first came out, and hated it. Thought the layout was bad, wanted it to be agressive on something tight, and it was dead by the time the ball hit 40 feet. I had 17 games on it and put it back in the closet. Took it out this year, saw Dino and he layed it out for me, actually pro shop guy drilled me a new one, and same thing. It does not turn the corner hard enough AT all, the ball is supposed to be money in your hand, not for me, so if anyone has anymore advice on what to do before I put it in the closet with 8 games on the new one pleae share....

We need more info about you, the ball and the layout used.  What's your pap, rev rate, etc.  Whats the layout from your pap, surface finish of the ball and conditions that you use it on.  What other equipment do you use with success, what's the layout from your pap and surface finish on them.  That will help out to find what the problem is.  I drilled 2 gamebreakers and they're fantastic imo

Here is the 411. I am 228 and bowl in many tournaments. I've had much success with brunswick equipment, espically the inferno line. Now, i'm mainly a Storm guy, my bag is 2 dominations, t road pearl, thunderstruck solid, trop storm with a 8inch pin, fired up, blue thunder(goto ball) My PAP is 5 3/8 x 0 and ball speed is 18mph, I kinda throw it like Jeff Carter, not too much hand but still hit it enough. Here is my prob, I bowl league in a center where its just SUPER tight, and i got comped a gamebreaker(2nd one) from my pro shop guy and like I said Dino layed it out, pin is up above ring cg is out, dont know specs exact and weight hole is down. Surface is out of box, I am going to bowl the mega bucks in feb and some big local events in december, so I'm looking for new equipment, any advice is appreciated again. GB is brand new just want it to work

Ok well the info I got from the Ebonite rep, was to drill any of these balls with the V2 core with simple drillings. I dont have a Gamebreaker but have thrown one with a stacked leverage drill on it and loved it, so I drilled up a Playmaker with that drill and love it too. So I would recommend to stack it to both of you.

Thats' rather odd.  My sytle and axis seem almost exact to yours.  My gamebreakers were laid out 5 1/2 above the bridge with a hole on axis and 6 X 5 pin below the middle both thrown out of the box.  My pin up gb seems comparable enough to yours.  I've never had a problem with it especially on medium amounts of oil.  Heavy it not quite strong enough and its way to much ball for dry.  The gamebreaker isn't a great recovery ball b/c of the low rg core and strong box finish.  I find it best used right around the track area, to far in it won't recover enough.

Is there any other conditions you're able to test the ball on beside the one tight shot.  I personally wouldn't use a ball like the gamebreaker on tight shots, I don't think it has enough backend. I prefer more angular balls like the raid and nvd and try to go around the carrydown

I drilled my GB last thursday night before league. This balls rolls so nice. It definitely reminds me of my old V2 Sanded which i had for four years. I wanted to try Pin up this time to see if i got better recovery ont he backend which i do.

Here's a pic: http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gbme6.jpg

For me, the Pin to PAP is 4-1/2 x 60 degrees.

I drilled one of these up prior to jr. gold in '07 and loved the ball. i drilled it rico, and love it. the ball handles all types of conditions, and it very smooth and predictable. this layout allowed me to either play straight up, or move in and play really deep. i am very upset that i cant throw it anymore because the fingers are starting to crack and it would take too much work to fix. also this ball worked very well with just about every surface adjustment i put on it.
