« on: April 09, 2006, 05:01:25 PM »

Had trhe same problem and just resurfaced 4 sides of the ball w/green scotchbrite. I used med pressure and 10 passes of the SB (I Don't have mega hand ) it now reacts when like OOB.

I know a guy that had the same problem after about 20 games. I have had a bit of the problem with other recent Ebonites and I clean the well after every set! I see they have not changed their ways.

ImaRedbird,

How's it going there? I wouldn't give up on it yet.
How many games do you have on the ball?
How often do you clean the ball?

You have a couple of options...
1. Try cleaning it with some Ebonite Powerhouse Cleaner or Track Clean N' Dull.
There are other cleaners out there too, but these are the ones I would recommend.
2. If you were using the ball in its' "Out of Box Surface," trying bringing it back to that state if you have many games on it.
3. Try the Ebonite Hook Again System or Columbia's CPR system

or...

4. Try the Hot Water Treatment. I have been doing this to my equipment for years. The temperature from the water brings oil out of the ball. After leaving it in a pail of Hot Tap Water (you can also add a couple of tablespoons of Dawn) for 15 minutes, you could literally smell the oil. Wipe your ball dry and
feel the tackiness comeback.

Check out my link below with the Experiment I did with an Ebonite ball...

Hope this helps & Good Luck!

Is it my imagination, or do you claim to have almost every ball lose a bunch of reaction during a very short time?  Do you bowl on poorly maintained wood lanes?

I've noticed the same thing.  What kind of house do you bowl in, Redbird, and do you clean your equipment very often, or almost never?  I remember you had a similar problem with your Big Deal.  You're the first person I ever heard say their Big Deal had died.  Now, if it was the One you were talking about, I wouldn't be as surprised, as they do soak up oil very fast and need a good soak now and then.

Strider the answer is "YES". The upkeep of our lanes suck so much. I don't wanna contradict myself, but it's not that i lost reaction, it's jus the reaction has changed. Also i put ALOT of games on equipment. And i clean it viciously. Also i had someone do maintenance on my equipment and i newly discovered that person doesn't know what he's doing.

You threw the overtime on light oil condition and saw more of an arc than snap. That ball although versatile is a bit on the stronger side for coverstock and by throwing it on lighter volumes it probably used up too much energy early, i believe you were hinting to that in your statement. Too many people evaluate ball performance prematurely as you need to match coverstock to reaction. Have you tried a bit more polish or higher grit level to see if that helps. That should push through the heads cleaner. Sometimes as warmer weather hits in our area oil does not adhere to the lane as well  (higher dust amount also effects reaction) so drying out or pattern movement is amplified.

left that's the thing it is polished. The person took a grey scotchbrite pad to it, to sand it for league, because my Big Deal was checked out(resurfcing), and i needed something for league, so it was sanded. Well the ball wasn't making it back so i slapped so polish on it. When i first got it drilled my driller saw me throw w/out and said put polish on it....and like magic, it was the best thing since sliced bread. Now a coat of ebonite factory finish polish is put on per the instructions of my driller, and now i have the best light oil lane ball one can have

Well if it is polished and was good to go and now  is dead on backend then I would believe that inverted's point might be the case.  What are the people around you noticing and throwing and how does it compare to what you are seeing?

How many games do you have on your overtime.Have you been cleaning your ball on a regualr basis? If you have 150 games or more on your overtime, you might want to try ebonite hook again it is very effective.

Im sorry they have confused you. Ummm My coach is wayne helenthal(man i hope i spelled that right) Dave at twin cities drills my equipment, but someone from the team changed the cover. Dave showed me how to add polish and so i did however i wasn't aware of the consequences of me adding polish ontop of the cover change.  I have enough arcing balls and my game seems to be played better with skid snap equipment.
