Black Widow....mass bias negative
« on: February 14, 2008, 02:51:28 AM »
Ebonite says don't do it!

Brunswick says don't do it!

Hammer on their high mass bias Black Widow series says.

Do it! Drilling #4

Anoyone knows what the mass bias rating on the black widow series is?

The one/NV series is listed as .027 the Brunswick "do not do this" ballls are listed as .017.

These???

ahhhhh!  It works on the BW I can assure you.

Though when I've seen this very ball with this drilling on a standard 40 league oiled shot it had no midlane and pierced thru the break point pretty hard!

Where it works is on these bone dry midlane situations.

It definately works.  I have both my Black Widow and BW Pearl drilled with MB in Negative positions...very very smooth, great pieces.  Not just on bone dry midlanes for me either.  I will post pics here in a second.

These are pictures of my 2 Widows (solid, pearl) both laid out with negative MB positions.  Two great pieces for me.....

I would think the MB position is all relative to the distance from ones PAP.  So I guess you would have to find out where that distance is to determine negative placement?

Let's say you have two bowling balls with the MB 1" left of the thumb hole (right hand bowlers).  This MB placement for one right hand bowler may be 5.5" from his PAP.  For another right hand bowler this MB placement may be 7" from his PAP.  Get the gist of what i'm saying?

Chitown, I actually do not get what you're saying.  I am obviously not a driller or anything, but by placing the MB on the negative side like I have....wouldn't my MB be closer to my PAP?

MB ...the more negative the farther away from ones PAP..

Hmm ok, obviously I had the wrong assumption of what the PAP is lol.

Are you thinking of the NAP.

Negative axis point on the Negative side of the ball.

Sort of a similar cocept to the north pole and the southpole but on the SIDE of the ball...not the top and bottom.

So my PAP is on the left side of the ball even though I track on the right side of the ball?

Now I am really confused lol.  So when someone says their drilling is 4x4 that means the pin is 4" from their PAP and the CG is also 4" from their PAP right?

If my pin is on the left side of the ball, being left handed, wouldn't that make my pin acutally like right next to my PAP, or is the PAP somewhere else lol.

Oh the joys of...

On second thought, I'm looking at my Track being on the right side of the ball when the fingers holes are facing me.  Are we assuming I track on the left side when the ball is face down? haha and yes this is a serious question.

That is the coolest looking BW Solid I've ever seen! Wow!

as far as the negative mb goes...a lot of people in my area are doing to tame down the backend in this series. Being that I'm a big fan of backend "snap", this is not for me, but a lot of people have them drilled that way, and they're loving it!

Your Black Widow Solid can look like that too!

Here's How:

Step 1:  Leave it in your car overnight when it is really freezing out.
Step 2:  Bring it in the house and say wow where did all this red come from?
Step 3:  Sand it down to nothing
Step 4:  Give it a hot water bath
Step 5:  Take it to your pro shop and have it brought back to 4000 grit

Seriously it used to be all black with like one little spot of red on the underside, now it has these sweet red streaks  All on accident my friend lol.
