Hammer Black Widow Black/Gold
« on: July 26, 2018, 01:59:29 PM »

Just dropped by Billy O. on their FB page, plus now is on Hammer's website.

Gas Mask Core, Aggression Hybrid coverstock (Rip'D cover).

I believe Bill said WWRD was 8/20, so that is coming up fast.

Now this further goes into my confusion. I was looking at getting a Rip'D, then the Scandal/S came out, and I was going to ask that outside of asymmetric versus symmetric, why should I choose the Scandal/S over the Rip'd. Now I have to ask the question of all three: why should I choose one of these balls over the other 2, if right now, the only difference is core, asym versus symmetric, and shape?

On a lighter note, looks like Vanderbilt would have an official ball! :P

We just had an EBI demo day here and the BW B/G did not disappoint. I just sold my Rip'D so I was not able to compare. Plus I basically had to throw 15 due to the span sizes. However, it did seem a little cleaner and flippier. I wouldn't call it true skid/flip, but it is definitely on the angular side. I kept striking with it. If I didn't already pick up the Radical Ludicrous, I would probably buy the Widow. Top 3 of the EBI balls that they brought.

If you can remember how it was with your Rip'D, how would you compare the continuation and drive through the pins between the Rip'D and the BWBG?

And would you call it cleaner through the heads or midlane? I think I'm close to my choice here, as this will probably be the tale of the tape for me.

The balls were actually drilled similar. I did have a P3 hole in my Rip'D. I'd say they would probably be fairly close with the same layout and surface. Can't go wrong with either. The Widow seemed to get down the lane a touch more than the Rip'd. But again, I never had the Rip'D to compare. They only brought two balls from each brand, and the Rip'Ds weren't there. If you like the gas mask core, go for the Widow. Other than that, they should be fairly close. The Rip'D may be a hair earlier and a touch stronger. Both balls drive through the pins well, for sure. I'd take either over the Rip'D Solid unless you are bowling on true heavy oil.
