No Mercy....suggestion!?
« on: April 05, 2007, 04:34:26 AM »
I realize I am new to the Hammer Forum, but I have helped many people on this site with layouts, fittings surface adjustments etc...  well now it is your turn!

I picked up another No Mercy....how should I drill it? Remember I had the #1 layout on my first one and had to redrill it. I ended up placing the pin below the ring finger. So I am looking for input from you folks on what I should do with this ball.

Thanks,
Carl

The driller at our center just drilled one for a guy. Pin right of ring, cg stacked, 3 3/8" layout. It's pretty mean from what I've seen so far.

First time I've seen a "non bag" drilling on the Mercy. Looks impressive.

Pin above the bridge 5" to 5.5" from your pap.  Kick the HART left of the thumb into your flare rings.  You can bring the negative statics all the way to 1oz and be good.  The #6 layout is what I have on 2 of the 3 NM's I own.  I really like the reaction from this layout.

Carl, the further left you move the thumb the more back end flip starts to occur.  That's what I have notice.

That should be good enough to give you a really strong down lane reaction.

I know a couple bolwers who had the #1 aggressive layout on there NM's.  It seemd that the pro shop just looked at the picture on the drill sheet and put the pin next to the ring finger and kicked the HART in the track flare.  What ended up happening is the pin was too close to there pap's.  This gave both of them mild back end reactions.

See one can't use the picture on the drill sheets.  For one bowler 4.5" from pap may be over the ring finger, not next to it.

If one reads the drill sheet they will see that Hammer suggests a certain pin distance from the bowlers pap.  The pictures are just a rough idea of how it would look.

I garuntee if a bowler places the pin 3 3/8 from there pap with the HART left of there thumb (right hander) they won't get the super strong down lane reaction that this ball is capable of.  Now this same bowler takes another NM and puts the pin 4.5" to 5.5" from there pap and the HART in the track flare and the reaction will be a lot stronger down lane.

According to my ball driller, he said as long at the pin is above your fingers or the bridge and the hart anyhwere you have your track flare should be fine.  I also have negative weight on my NM which helps the mid roll.  I got to say it's a great ball but since I have the BW it's a totally different monster.

Chitown,

Would you adjust your recomendation for a low tracker?

My PAP is 4 over 1/8 down. I have a NM waiting at the shop and I've been considering the #8 drilling.

The #8 layout sounds great.  It shows a picture of the pin below the middle finger and HART left of thumb for a right hander.  Now it also says to place the pin 4" - 5" from the bowlers pap.  So if you put the pin 4.5" from your pap and it ends up a little past the middle finger then that's where it would go.  Basically the pictures are just a rough idea of where the pin would be.  It not meant to be exact.  Now in your case the pin 4.5" from your pap may end up under your middle finger.

Let us know how the #8 works for you.

This is actually a great example of how this ball could be drilled wrong.  Let's say you went to the pro shop with this ball.  Let's say the driller didn't know your pap or that you were a low track player.  So he drills it up with the #1 aggressive layout with the pin next to the ring finger.  You get the ball, roll it on the lanes and it appears weak on the back end.  Little did you know, the driller just put the pin next to your ring and it's 2.5" from your pap.  No wonder this ball doesn't work.

My point is this stuff happens.  I have heard some bowler on here say that the NM hardly hooks at all.  It makes me say WHAT?!  I own 3 of these balls and each is very strong.

I'm fortunate to have an expert driller as owner of the pro shop. I'm a regular customer there so he takes good care of me. That said I had an "interesting" experience with another driller so I've learned to do my own research. Plus I'm a bowling geek and I like to learn new things.

The NM with the pin above the bridge, in between the fingers, is more of a first ball out of the bag.  The NM with the pin high above the ring finger obviously get's more length but also has more angle to the pocket.  This ball is great for when the lanes transition and I start leaving 10 pins with my pin above the bridge NM.

Hey Chitown....your #6 drilling on yours is exactly identical as mine. My HART is at the same distance from my thumb as yours

Six that's cool!  I have 3 of these NM's now!  I have never matched up with a ball as I have with the NM.  My NM's will be in my bag for a long time.  I will buy more NM's to save for later use.
