a little help please
« on: January 07, 2010, 02:17:38 AM »
Hi, I'll try to make this super short. I have 2 problems. The first one is, I keep falling out of my ball during my release.I'm falling out of my fingers, not thumb. I can't figure it out. I've had some ideas....Trying to hit it to much, wrist is breaking at release, but honestly, I have no idea lol. Does anyone have an idea why this could happen? Even if I try lofting it, I can get the ball down the lane ,but my fingers still fall out.My fingers fit in the ball fine.

My second problem is kind of obvious. I can't bend my knees well.Infact, barely at all.My problem with this is, I slam the ball into the lane hard. When the ball hits, it sounds like a shotgun going off.Sometimes, it hits so hard my ball literally bounces left or right. Is there anyway to sort of fix this problem as well.I'm not getting a knee replacement anytime soon.

So, between my phantom figure problem that I have no clue why I am losing it,and my can't bend properly at the line problem, I need some help. Thanks ahead of time, I truly appreciate it!!

Just as an option , you nay want to get your fingers redrilled with a 1/4 or 1/2 forward pitch

I don''t know for sure, but I wonder if your timing is waaay early (meaning, your hand is outstretched toward the target and releasing the ball before your feet stop moving).  That''s the only reason I can think of.  Would also explain the loft thing.  Maybe try getting your timing down to where you''re releasing at the bottom of your swing right as your arm transfers into an upswing.  This should happen simultaneously as you''re into your slide (or plant, since without the knee bend I doubt you slide a lot). Should help the loft and keep your fingers in the ball if I''m thinking right.

Any coaches to confirm my theory, or warn this poor guy that my advice is junk before he hurts himself?

Are you gripping the ball with your fingers?  You should actually be using more finger pressure than thumb pressure to hold the ball.  Insert your fingers first, then your thumb, then pull forward with your fingers, what Deadbait calls fishhooking the fingers.  Keep the fingers below the equator of the ball during your swing and release the ball as it passes your ankle, slightly on the upswing.  Quite a few good bowlers don''t have a lot of knee bend, watch a video of Chris Barnes.  When you get the release right I don''t think lack of knee bend will be a big problem, just bend a little more at the waist.  --  JohnP
