I will chime in on this thread, knowing full well, that there are very few "bad" bowling balls out there, just bad match-ups with operators!

But with that caveat in mind, here's my list of truly "bust" balls for me:

1. Azo- Fatman
2. AMF- Whiplash
3. Brunswick- Fury
4. Brunswick- Radical Inferno
5. Ebonite- Acryllium?
6. MoRich- LevRG

I absolutely loved my Angular One. It did exactly as advertised, on a consistent basis. I got a very sharp, angular move to the pocket, every time I threw it. Used to frustrate the competition terribly in pot games.
( I know I was only supposed to list two- but it's too hard to decide)

Hey new to the board I had to sign up so I could chime in here. By far the worst ball I have ever received is the Motiv tx1 I don't know if mine is miss marked or a dud but its horrible. Givin the guys at motiv are going to replace the ball on the chances its a dud I'm still not impressed.
The other ball had to be the Track eXception never got a great read out of that ball.

I waited to respond for this reason. Look at all the balls listed here and they run the whole gamut, from early rolling oil pieces, to late skid/snap pieces.

There are very few BAD bowling balls. Just ones that are bought by the wrong bowler and/or for the wrong conditions. One of the problems we see at our pro shop is that a bowler wants a particular ball because his friend is killing it with that ball. Nevermind that their games are entirely different and play different parts of the lane... and sometimes at different houses with varying lane surfaces.

If we suggest altering the ball's surface to enhance carry, they give us this bewildered look like, why? Is that legal?  Every ball will have it's strong points, and weaknesses if used at the wrong time. If you're wanting and "heavy oil ball" to skid/snap you're barking up the wrong tree...

In general, that's very true. Matchups dictate most of the issue of whether a ball is "good" or "bad."

But there are a few cases in which the ball itself was a mistake. I've seen the Columbia Complete Chaos mentioned three or four times just in this thread, and every time this thread comes up there seem to be a different set of people mentioning it. After awhile, it begs the question of whether there's something deeper to consider.

My issue with the Chaos (as with most people I've talked to who didn't like it) was that at about the 30-40 game point, it died and could not be brought back to life through any pro shop means. That ball came out when particle technology was still in its infancy and I suspect that was the issue. Ebonite's Tombstone draws similar groans, although I never had one so I can't comment.

1- Rival (Columbia)
2- Sledge Hammer (Faball)

Couldn't get a repeatable/good reaction out of either one.

Ended up giving the Rival to my oldest son, and he re-drilled it to fit his hand (same basic layout), and the ball is a monster for him.

The Sledgehammer? I remember buying that one and loving it.

The BVP Mammoth was not good for MY game. I know there are some on this site who liked it, but for me it didn't carry as well as everything else I had. Too heavy of a particle load for me.

The Sledge Hammer was either too aggressive, or, if I laid off it a touch, wouldn't face up to the pocket.  It all depends on how our own game matches up, I guess.

My two worst balls were:

Track Heat 2 Pearl.  Its on its fourth owner and drilling all 4 HATE that thing.

Storm El Nino.  Alot of peole loved theres.  That ball went through 3 owners and drills before going the landfill.

I have a few others that I hated, but others used them and liked them so they dont qualify.
