Hey Mike Austin, I believe you are thinking of Del Ballard being naturally left handed, as he writes lefty, but bowls righty. I am naturally right handed, but grew up messing around bowling lefty. After having shoulder surgery back in 1999, I decided to bowl as a lefty until the shoulder was 100%. Did it for about 1 1/2 years.
richbasian, I shot 859 righty and 856 lefty. I will say this, the 856 lefty was on probably the easiest shot I've ever seen, and I had that shot all year long in that house. I ended the season with a 237 average in one league and 231 in another. Pretty much used one ball, all year, for both leagues.....and never had to move my feet more than 3 or 4 boards or my target more than 3 or 4 boards........All year long. LOL. By the way, shot the 859 righty in the same house. Only difference was I could have to work my butt off for 600 the next week on the right. 12 different balls and 5 different arrows to average 225 on the right for the season. LOL
The true test was trying a few Regionals as a lefty, back when they were actually using the "true" sport shots, and I probably averaged about 185 for the 3 I tried. No cashes, but got real close once. Had to shoot too many spares. I did, however, bowl one Tour stop lefthanded up in Dallas, and averaged just over 200. I've actually been thinking about trying the left side thing again for this coming league season. Not sure if my ankle injury I sustained 4 years ago will allow me to do it though.
Oh, by the way, I will vote for Bryan Alpert.........and myself....and one of those Warren boys from Dallas, just can't remember which one it was that was so good on both sides. (one of Chris's brothers)
