Do you own a plastic ball?
« on: December 04, 2006, 07:08:20 AM »
And use it?

I'm not talking about a "performance" plastic ball... or a ball that you use when they get really dry.  But a Maxim or White Dot or Vis-a-ball for shooting spares.  And a ball with a label drill, no leverage weighted (if that's even possible with a pancake weightblock) layouts.

If so, what do you got?

No.  I use a Black Beauty for spares in tournaments, and an AMF 3-Dot for spares in league.

I have 3 different plastic balls.

16# Brunswick Target Zone Black Sparkle. I might pull it back out of retirement.

16# Ebonite Rainbow multicolored ball, originally my dads ball but I inherited it as he never used it. Great conversation peice at the lanes.

15# Brunswick Target Zone (blue, white, red swirl) This is my newest plastic ball, needs a finger plug and redrill for my hand. Got it free and I thought about giving 15#s a shot as a spare ball. May or maynot help me but its worth a shot.

Currently my Ebonite is in my bag, I use it mainly for my single pin spares and clustered multipin spares. I rarely use it as a strike ball, usually takes fried heads and dry outsides for this to work effectively.

When this ball turns over, I know I'm in trouble.

Nope I use a Ebonite Red Pearl Turbo drilled negative. Had ball since resin was introduced just for spares no need for plastic expense.

I throw a Black Silver Caramel WD. But its not just my spare ball, i can hook the hell out of the lane with the ball. On my league, which is a wood house which oils at 4 pm, has a plastic ball league on it, and then our league bowls at 6, i can not throw anything else but my WD. I cant keep anything on the right side of the pocket. Sometimes my Scout/R which is at 4000 abralon with 2 coats of Black Magic and 2 coats of Ultimate XXX polish (which is for super extended length if u didnt know) cant stay on the right side of the lane...but the WD carries and as long as i have a lot of side roll im A - OK

P.S. I also throw my WD as a strike ball in my Scratch League. Its a synthetic house with freshly oiled lanes for us, with lots of dry in the backend, and i can use it there, providing o get my side roll and a little more lift than normal.

I have to ask this because I've read different responses. How are you able to hook the WD when according to some you can't hook a WD? You must have it drilled differently.
